I cannot believe we are now into June - halfway thru 2023!! And that means that temperatures are starting to really rise, so keeping our makeup intact and style on point, can be quite a challenge. The sweltering heat and humidity (here in the South especially!) often cause makeup to melt and can leave you feeling less than fabulous. However, with the RIGHT products, techniques, and style choices, you can embrace the summer season with confidence and stay cool while looking chic! In this blog post, I am sharing Top Hot Weather Style and Beauty Tips to Keep You Looking Cool with valuable hot-weather makeup and style tips to help you beat the heat and achieve a flawless summer look.

Our style goes hand in hand with makeup, and choosing the right fabrics, silhouettes, and styles can make a significant difference in staying cool. Always opt for lightweight and breathable fabrics like cotton, linen, or chambray. Flowy maxi dresses are my favorite option. Like this V-neck Amazon maxi, $34, that comes in 9 other solid colors - oh, and it has pockets! Even loose-fitting tops and shorts are excellent choices for keeping you comfortable while maintaining your style. This popular J.Crew linen shirtdress style, $90, is also a perfect option.
Before applying any eye makeup, it's a crucial step. I NEVER do eye-makeup without prepping my eyelids first. But especially in the summer when makeup melt and movement is such an issue. Start on bare eyelids with the tried and true, Urban Decay Primer Potion, $27, that won’t leave a greasy residue and will extend the longevity of your makeup. Another fabulous product is the Nars Smudge Proof shadow base, $26.
In the summer, if I have more color on my skin, then I want/need to wear less makeup. Which means less foundation running down my face! I have been loving the St. Tropez Vitamins Bronzing Face Serum, $35, which contains vitamin C + D and is the perfect skincare option for gradually bronzing your face. Apply at least 3-4 squirts onto clean dry skin and allow about 5 minutes to dry before applying any makeup. I do this about every other day to keep up the glow. It’s super subtle and looks completely realistic like I basked in the sunshine (without any damage by real sun rays!).
I wear mascara every single day. And to prevent raccoon eyes, I have to opt for waterproof formulas when sweating is a given. Waterproof mascara, and even eyeliners, will withstand the heat and humidity without smudging or smearing. (Plus extra staying power if you add in that eyelid primer!!) It Cosmetics finally came out with a waterproof version of their mega magical Superhero mascara, $28.
And contrary to popular belief, waterproof mascara is not hard to remove IF you use the right product! Try the Neutrogena Oil free eye makeup remover and a cotton round to magically and easily remove.
Swap your heavy, full-coverage foundation for a lightweight, more breathable alternative. Tinted moisturizers, BB creams, or mineral foundations are excellent options for hot weather. The holy grail of tinted moisturizers that has a shade for anyone, and has built in SPF, is the Laura Mercier Natural Skin Perfecter, $53. These formulas provide a more natural, sheer coverage while allowing your skin to breathe. If you want to experiment with a less expensive tinted moisturizer, try the Neutrogena healthy skin perfector, $15.
Accessorizing sunglasses + a vibrant lip color, not only add a touch of glamour to your summer ensemble but also provides extra protection from the sun! If you just don’t have time for eye makeup, then have your cute glasses do the talking! I love these affordable lightweight polarized glasses, $15, from Amazon that I own in 3 different shades to go with any outfit.
Then pair that eyewear with a beautiful popsicle-colored lip that complements this season's vibrant energy! I am obsessed with the newest Buxom formula, their Collagen Plump Shot Lip Serums, $28. If you’re curious about which shade to choose from the line, I created a swatch video over on my YouTube Channel here showing all the colors on myself!
Sun protection is a non-negotiable aspect of your hot-weather beauty routine. Combine that protection with locking your makeup in, then you’ve got a home run product! I have been using the Pacifica Beauty Set + Protect Sheer Mist with SPF 45, $16, for a couple of weeks now, and love the lightweight, non-greasy formula that won't clog your pores. This is the EASIEST way to reapply face sunscreen too without disturbing makeup that’s already been applied. Another great option is this organic one that’s a bit more hydrating by Coola, $36.
Of course, we can’t forget footwear. And as the temperature rises, it's essential to wear open-toed shoes so that your feet can breathe! There are a ton of cute and comfy options out there. I personally love to own sandals in gold and silver, because these metallic shades are considered neutrals, they add flair and match almost any outfit you choose. These ASOS knotted sandals, $32 I’m wearing with my maxi dress have become a fave of mine. And if you haven’t seen the Sam Edelman Bay Slides, $120, yet, they’re the cutest and come in silver, gold, and rose gold, plus a ton of other colors!
