  1. This is BRILLIANT! Laurel is so awesome, she brings such great insight into comments at my blog and it’s so cool to see you two collaborating. I love her ideas, and this room is utterly gorgeous!

i agree that laurel is brilliant especially with her design expertise. lucky me that she graciously shared her design knowledge with me. xo

A lot of us have spaces that aren’t working for us, and frankly life has changed in recent decades. More of us are working remotely and telecommuting. Formal dinners happen when — a couple of times a year? And yet, house design has not changed.

Our formal dining area is serving as a home office, although not one as elegant as your YouTube room. It’s time to reimagine a lot of things, including tired and worn furniture. New ideas flow when there’s space.

    • beth djalali says:

it’s so refreshing to see how rooms can be repurposed from their original use. even my mother’s generation only used their formal dining rooms several times a year. i always used to ask her why we only ate there on special occasions? it never made sense. xo

I am so impressed with the beautiful way Laurel Bledsoe worked with you on this decorating process. The room is absolutely stunning and perfect for your u-tube and other blog related posts. Now if I could only create a few more rooms for my studio apartment in NYC, I would be so tempted to redecorate as well. I can’t wait to see more updates on the transformation of your lovely home!

    • beth djalali says:

hi rebecca! if only NYC had more space for its many inhabitants. but i’m certain your studio apartment looks amazing. but isn’t laurel such a talented designer? so happy i was able to pick her design brains. xo

  4. Susan Thompson says:

I love the indigo blue with the white! Is it Sherwin Williams, or a different brand of paint?

  5. Sue Smith says:

It looks great! I love the muted shades of the rug under the glass table. Very nice! I also like the idea of scaling back and slowly adding what you like. Good for you! And kudos to Laurel Bledsoe!

  6. Sharon Woryn says:

Your home is stunning! I just re-did my dining room and so I have been shopping for a new light fixture and just shopping my home for fresh ways to display things. I repurposed the buffet half of a hutch that belonged to my aunt. I just knew she was smiling from heaven that the piece was staying in the family. So I haven’t been doing much wardrobe shopping. It is also hot here and so I am enjoying wearing summery clothes.

    • beth djalali says:

      hi sharon,
i missed this comment! and thank you for the compliment. the house is coming together slowly but surely. isn’t it fun to shop for your home for a little refresh? secretly, i love home design more than fashion but don’t tell anyone.
      xo
