Happy Friday, Gang! We made it! Another week is in the books, and we are officially in countdown mode. Yep, it’s October, which means we’re in Q4 and all things holiday are upon us. Okay, maybe not yet — but it’s coming, and coming fast! So this weekend I’m getting organized and pulling together a few fall weekend outfits now that the weather is finally cooling down. (If you’re in reset mode too, my Fall Closet Reset is a good place to start.)

I have two big trips on the horizon. In mid-October, I’m headed to LA for YouTube’s Holiday Shopping event — I can’t wait to share that with you. And at the end of the month, a friend’s daughter is getting married on the Georgia coast. It’s black tie and luxury at its finest, so I think I’ll sneak in a what-to-wear-to-a-wedding post in the next week or two.

What I’m wearing: Faux Crocodile Blazer · Plaid Cotton Shirt · Straight Leg Jeans · Leather Ballet Flats · East West Handbag | Denim Jacket · Weekender Shirt · Boy Chino · Suede Loafers | Similar Turtleneck Sweater · Zoe Barrel Jean · Leopard Flats

Key Takeaways

  • The easiest fall weekend outfits start with jeans or chinos you already own, then add one third piece—a blazer or a jacket—to pull the look together.
  • Rich browns, burgundy, denim blue, and winter white carry you from the first cool morning right through Thanksgiving.
  • A pair of flats (ballet, loafer, or leopard) keeps every one of these looks Saturday-easy.

What I’m Wearing This Weekend

Look one is my answer to “I want to look put together but I’m going to be running errands.” The Faux Crocodile Blazer does all the heavy lifting over a Plaid Cotton Shirt and my Straight Leg Jeans, with the burgundy Leather Ballet Flats and East West Handbag picking up the browns in the plaid. It’s the third-piece idea from my 7 polished fall outfits post in action.

Look two is pure American Classic. A Denim Jacket with a corduroy collar over my gingham Weekender Shirt, the Boy Chino in cream, and Suede Loafers — and yes, there’s more where those came from in our loafer conversation this week. Same East West Handbag, same brown belt. Repeating your accessories is the easiest way to make a small wardrobe work harder.

Look three is winter white before winter. A short-sleeve turtleneck (here’s a Similar Turtleneck Sweater) with the Zoe Barrel Jean and my Leopard Flats — leopard is the neutral I keep coming back to, and I shared how I’m wearing leopard this fall last week.

Weekend Notes

I don’t talk about Sézane nearly enough, and that needs to change. Their Clyde Coat is hands-down my favorite raincoat, and a few of their new arrivals have caught my eye this week.

Then there’s J.Crew Factory, the unsung hero of my closet. Their jeans hold their own against mainline J.Crew — just know I size up when I order Factory. The J.Crew Factory Field Jacket is the easy third piece every fall weekend outfit needs, and a Factory blazer has never let me down. This week, it’s the J.Crew Factory Herringbone Schoolboy Blazer that has my heart.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Talbots has partnered with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation on their Sisterhood of Strength campaign. The Talbots Sisterhood Scarf supports breast cancer research — a pretty scarf with a purpose, and I can’t think of a better reason to add one to your fall rotation.

And while we’re on Talbots, their tennis set is so country club I can’t resist it. I wore it on a recent walk at Morgan Falls: the Talbots Tennis Cardigan tossed over my shoulders, the Talbots Tennis Sweater Vest, the polka dot Talbots Pleated Skort, and my Cole Haan GrandPro Sneakers. Preppy, comfortable, and very CC.

Gang, have you seen the Mary Tyler Moore Collection from Frances Valentine? Who didn’t love that show? I was about twelve when it debuted, and like the rest of the country, I fell head over heels for Mary’s wardrobe. So of course I have the shoes — the pointy-toe Frances Valentine MTM Flats — along with the Frances Valentine Grommet Belt. And I’m swooning over the iconic Frances Valentine MTM Handbag, which comes in black or oyster. Mary would approve.

Okay, ladies, let’s talk about boobs needing a lift. Gravity is real, and none of us are getting younger — but the right bra changes how every one of these outfits sits. EBY has just the bra: the EBY Boob Job Bra. With a name like that, it had better deliver!

Call me old school, but I’ll always love a monogram — and personalized stationery is non-negotiable in my book. With the holidays around the corner, a set of Personalized Stationery makes a gift that never misses, whether it’s for someone on your list or for you.

I’m always on the lookout for skincare products, especially when the weather turns. It’s been a minute since I’ve used Clinique, but the Clinique Moisture Surge Moisturizer and Clinique Moisture Surge Serum caught my eye — the moisturizer promises 100 hours of hydration, and I’m a serum-plus-moisturizer girl.

Laundry day doesn’t have to feel like a chore. I’m a BIG fan of Laundry Sauce — I’ve been using Laundry Sauce French Saffron and just ordered Laundry Sauce Italian Bergamot. It’s free of parabens, phosphates, and dyes, and my code BETH_D15 saves you a little something.

A reminder that my Poshmark Store is open for business — pieces from my own closet, ready for their next chapter.

Believe it or not, it’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas gifts. Amazon Prime Days kick off next week, so keep an eye out for my Tuesday and Wednesday posts. In the meantime, my Amazon Storefront is always open.

Shopping for a sports fan? Crate & Barrel teamed up with the NFL on a collectors’ series, and I’m partial to the Crate & Barrel NFL Pint Glasses and the Crate & Barrel NFL Beer Can Glasses. Don’t tell my my kiddos may or may not be getting these for Christmas.

Speaking of sports fans, the guest bath at my Atlanta apartment turned out to be such a fun room. It’s my riff on Ralph Lauren: the walls are full of vintage sports photos, hung salon-style, so every guest gets a little game-day nostalgia with their hand towel.

On my nightstand: my book club is reading There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America by Brian Goldstone. It follows five Atlanta families who work hard and still struggle to keep a roof over their heads. With the story set right here in our own backyard, I have a feeling it’ll make for an eye-opening discussion—and it won the Pulitzer Prize, so it’s in very good company.

Closing Thoughts

October always feels like the year shifting into a higher gear — calendars filling, suitcases coming out of the closet, gift lists starting to take shape. My plan is to meet it the same way I get dressed on a fall Saturday: keep it simple, lean on the pieces I trust, and leave a little room for something new. Here’s to a weekend of getting organized, and a season worth getting dressed for.

Style has no expiration date — and neither do you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are good fall weekend outfits for women over 50?

Start with jeans or chinos and add one polished third piece, like a blazer or denim jacket. Finish with a comfortable flat and a structured bag, and keep the palette to two or three colors.

How do you style a faux croc blazer casually?

Pair it with straight leg jeans and a soft plaid or striped shirt so the texture reads relaxed, not formal. Ballet flats or loafers keep it weekend-ready.

Can you wear winter white in October?

Absolutely. Cream sweaters and ecru denim look fresh against fall’s darker colors, and a leopard or brown leather shoe grounds the look for the season.

Are J.Crew Factory jeans as good as J.Crew?

In my experience, yes — the quality holds up beautifully for the price. I do tend to size up when ordering Factory, so check the size chart before you buy.

How can I keep my skin hydrated as the weather cools?

Use both a serum and a moisturizer: the serum goes on first, then the moisturizer seals in the hydration. As the air gets drier, a richer moisturizer makes a real difference.
