Day 3 of the Mediterranean Cruise sailing on The Windstar Star Legend found us in Firenze, known as Florence. It was a rainy day with cool temps, so I grabbed my quilted Barbour jacket and a reversible bucket rain hat from Burberry. I’m a big fan of hats for many reasons, but keeping the raindrops at bay is of utmost importance, especially when traveling since you never know what Mother Nature will dish up. This bucket hat is easy to throw in your suitcase or tuck inside your handbag since it folds up nicely. It came in handy in Florence (the only day the weather was inclement). I can’t tell you how important it is to travel with the right equipment, whether it’s electronic devices, footwear, packable jackets, or hats.

If you’re curious about the Windstar Meditterean Cruise, here is a link to Jerne, who can help answer any questions you may have. But feel free to message me with any questions or drop a note in the comments. The Windstar Star Legend sleeps 312, hosts a fantastic gym, hot tub, and pool, and three restaurants - Amphora, Cuadro 44, and Candles. Plus, you have access to 24/7 room service, a lovely spa, and nighttime entertainment in the lounge. My oldest son, Alex, accompanied me on the cruise, and we shared a room with twin beds. It was quite comfortable, although we were so busy from morning to night that we didn’t spend much time in our cabin.
What I love about cruises is that it is one of the easiest ways to travel. Simply pack your bags and unpack once. It’s as easy as that! Then you are off to visit not one but several cities. As a single traveler, this aspect is very appealing to me as a cruise ship offers peace of mind and safety. On this particular trip, I had my oldest in tow, but I do travel often all by myself, and we met several cruisers who were doing just that.
Typically, cruises offer daily group excursions you can sign up for the day before, or you can strike out on your own and explore the city on your own terms. On this particular cruise from Rome to Barcelona, there were quite a few travel agents aboard, and many of them hired private tour guides, which is also an excellent option. Alex and I took advantage of several of the excursions, including the day trip to Florence and The Accademia Gallery, which houses the famous marble statue of David by Michelangelo, which is truly spectacular.

Personally, I love to travel during the shoulder seasons as there are fewer tourists and the weather is glorious. The entire trip, from Italy to France to Spain the temperature was in the upper 50s to the low 60s. Now that’s my kind of weather! I love to slip into a cozy turtleneck sweater from J. McLaughlin (I sized up on size for a roomy fit) and a pair of jeans or faux leather leggings. This pair is from last season from J. McLaughlin (similar here, here, and here), and I love the fit. Good news as J. McLaughlin is having a 40% off sale. It’s a great time to shop, as we all love a good sale! A pair of lug-sole Chelsea boots are my footwear of choice on an inclement day, and let me tell you, if you want to be fashionable in Europe, choose a pair of lug-sole Chelsea boots, combat boots (or lace boots), or sneakers. That is the footwear of choice this winter.

Looks like you and Alex had a wonderful time. Was just wondering why Kelly did not go along?
It was a special trip with my oldest! It’s not often we can carve out ten days for a trip but it worked out for both of us. And, no, this trip Kelly didn’t come along.
Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with all of us!
It was such a fun trip with my oldest in tow! And the Star Legend is a beautiful ship!
Great outfit especially in the rain. Love the evening black dress too. Just divine! What did you think about Florence and getting to see the Statue of David? Hard to determine what is your favorite city in Italy, isn’t it? They are all different and have their own specialties. Looks like a great trip. Thank you for sharing!
I love, love, love Italy, Florence included. But Tuscany has my heart. What breathtaking views in the countryside. David is a must-see! Absolutely a must-see. Far better than the Mona Lisa in the Louvre.
You look so modern and “fierce” — love your outfit! I hope you have had as fabulous a time as the photos convey … Enjoy the remains of your trip!
It was such a fun-filled week in Europe with my oldest. Memories to last a lifetime!
Thank you for taking us along on your trip Beth. Your pictures are beautiful! Loving your outfits too! As you cruise along, continue to enjoy all the sights and sounds! ❤️
I’m so happy you’re virtually joining me on this a-ma-zing cruise! I enjoyed every minute, especially since my oldest son joined me!
Hi Beth,
Please can you tell me what size did you buy for the Barbour jacket that works well over sweaters? Such a chic look! Love it!
Thank you,
Francesca B
Hi Francesca,
I have a size 8 US, which is my usual size. But, if you want to wear this jacket with chunky sweaters or several layers, I recommend sizing up one size as it is a slim fit.
Beth, you look absolutely stunning in your evening wear! Love all of your outfits! You look great! You have to get invited to the Cannes Film Festival and wear that black evening dress outfit, though, as you will be a paparazzi favorite! Happy Holidays!
Cannes would be a treat! Isn’t this LBD gorgeous?! Thanks for stopping by!
