welcoming summer with an eyelet dress & a family bbq

happy memorial day, gang! we may have forgotten what a long weekend looks like, but let’s never forget the brave soldiers that have protected our country and our freedom through the years. it takes determination and sacrifice to serve the United States of America because freedom has a price, and our veterans offered to pay. and because of their willingness to serve their country, you and i are able to celebrate memorial day with family and friends and smiles on our faces. but there are those of us who have tear-stained cheeks because their loved one paid the ultimate price and gave their lives for their country. let’s never forget the risks that are involved with liberty. it must be fought for and protected by each generation.

and, yes, memorial day is the unofficial kick-off for summer. are you ready? ‘cuz it’s here. this summer may look a bit different from years gone by. but little by little our country is opening back up and our lives along with it. to date, my hair has been coiffed and my tootsies and nails have been put back in good stead. boy-oh-boy do i feel better. it’s the little things in life that push us back to normalcy. and my little family is gathering together for a backyard barbecue.  so join us today as we’re welcoming summer with an eyelet dress and a family bbq.

welcoming summer with an eyelet dress

Loft recently reached out to select several pieces from their new collection. this adorable eyelet blue dress was perfect for memorial day (and all summer long). all i needed to do to finish this ootd was decide on a pair of shoes. that’s the beauty of dresses. they’re one and done. so i decided to reach for a tried and true pair of shoes from Talbots (similar here and here) that have been a summer favorite for years.

and i couldn’t resist adding a frozen treat to today’s menu. have you ever tried poptails? they’re the adult version of popsicles. half popsicle and half cocktail. today i whipped up a vodka sunset. these can be made ahead and frozen in ice pop molds.

    Dear Beth,
Thank you for acknowledging the true meaning of Memorial Day. I am one of the Momโ€™s with tears on my face. My beautiful Son gave all on March 18, 2006 in Iraq. God Bless Our Fallen and our Gold Star Families.

    1. Mary

God bless you. Prayers for you and your family. As an Army brat, I grew up understanding the importance of honoring our military. Your son’s sacrifice is truly appreciated by everyone like me.

  2. Your Memorial Day message is so true. We must honor our veterans and serving military every chance we get.

Also, as always you look so cute in your blue eyelet dress. Love it.

Pretty shade for eyelet. I bought a light pink eyelet blouse to wear with white pants but ended up wearing just plain jeans with a shirt. We had someone in the hospital and my husband has problems with Afib so I just didn’t dress up today.
My family all stayed in their own homes. It was very quite all day. We did have hamburgers like we usually do but it felt strange. However I read a lot of memorials to fallen military online and that was a good thing. We need to remember.

love the eyelet dress. You look amazing.

I still have those striped shoes! I put away the summer shoes when weather gets cooler, and now, when it’s warmer, everything is new all over again. Had to smile to see them here. They look fun with the eyelet dress. Hope your holiday was a good one.
