can you believe memorial day is only a few short days away?! with summer knocking at our door, it’s time to switch gears. and with a three day weekend at hand, many of us will take advantage and head to the lake, shore, or pool. but what to bring, what to pack? most likely you’ll spend some time by the water, an afternoon barbecue might be on the agenda, and brunch or casual dinner is a given. so here are 5 summer essentials that just might find their way into your suitcase. let’s take a look. but before you do don’t forget to pack sunscreen!
dress
nothing beats the summer heat quite like a dress! simple and chic there’s a variety to choose from. shirt dress to shift dress, long or short, linen to cotton, i’m adding dresses to my wardrobe like crazy.

sneakers
don’t you love how sneakers go with everything these days? from shorts to skirts to dresses they are the perfect addition to any outfit. for those of us who complain about foot issues, i’m certain you’ll agree that it’s great to see sneakers are on-trend and available in a variety of styles.

hat
when we’re having fun in the sun it’s nice to add a hat as extra protection against the sun. plus, they spice up any old outfit in no time flat.
swimsuit
labels: swimsuit Ralph Lauren (old, similar here, here, here, and here)
like it or not, swimsuit season has arrived. but let me assure you there is swimwear for every shape. and who wants to miss out on a leisurely afternoon spent on the beach? last summer i wore a colorful striped suit by ralph lauren. this year, i’m adding another swimsuit to my repertoire. here’s what’s on my wish list.
cover up
labels: pareo (old, similar here, here, here, and here)
half the fun of donning a swimsuit is covering it back up! plus, if you ever need to traipse through the hotel lobby to get to the pool or beach you might as well do it in style. a black pareo is a safe bet and ever-so-versatile. but there are soooo many other choices. this year, a gauze tunic might find it’s way home with me.

These are some fabulous looks and I love them all. I have an very old Pareo I bought on the beach in Antiqua and I will try tying it like a halter as you did. The checked and embroidered sneakers are another item I will check into. Thanks for some great ideas, Beth – and enjoy this lovely weekend!
thank you, rebecca, i had a lovely weekend as not one buy two out of three kiddos were home this weekend. as always it just zips by. are you making plans for the three-day weekend ahead of us? we’re going to crank up the grill.

All great summer looks. I’ve finally put away all the cold weather clothes and gotten all my summer things out–forgot about some of them and it will be fun to play with combinations. Enjoy!
it’s always a treat to pull out warm weather clothes. and even better when we’ve forgotten about one or two. i bought that denim dress i wore last week at the end of the season and it had completely slipped my mind. can’t tell you what a treat that was! let me know what outfits you come up with. i might have to steal an idea or two from you.

Fabulous summer outfits! The hats add a fun element as well as protection from the sun. Will have to look at each outfit in detail for ideas. xoxo
hats are not only fun to wear but do add a layer of protection. i’ll never forget as a young girl suffering from a sunburn that even the part in my hair was scorched!
