with our schedules heating up during the holidays it’s oh-so-easy for our bodies to begin to feel run-down. through the years i’ve learned several ways to combat stress whether it’s bopping in for a quick mani/pedi, or visiting my local aesthetician for a soothing facial. since i’ve received so many requests, recently, on my daily skin and hair routine, i thought today would be a perfect time to share a few of my secrets.
for daily hair maintenance, on the recommendation of my fab stylist, my go-to products begin with kerastase. for shampoo, i use Kerastase Discipline Bain Fluidealiste No Sulfates Smooth-in-Motion Shampoo which helps keep my hair healthy and shiny. right after i shampoo i use a conditioner Kerastase Discipline Fondant Fluidealiste that helps tame my thick, coarse hair into feeling silky. once a week, usually on sunday, i add on a 10-minute hair masque Kerastase Nutritive Oleo – Relax Smoothing Mask – Dry & Rebellious Hair that provides nourishment to my dry hair. i’ve linked all of these products for a user-friendly experience, but all of these items can also be found at local salons, and Amazon
i don’t know about you but, luckily for me, skin care has been a daily ritual since i was a teen. it was the one piece of advice from my mother i actually listened to: wash your face morning and night, and don’t forget to moisturize. thanks, mom! the products i use have changed through the years, but i don’t think i’ve ever gone to bed without removing my makeup, and washing my face. for many years, during my forties and early fifties, i regularly visited my local aesthetician for a facial. i think they do a world of good for my skin, and are a thoroughly relaxing experience. recently, i was treated to a complimentary HydraFacial MD that was a little different from the norm and only takes 30 minutes. if your schedule is as busy as mine this is the perfect facial for you as you are in and out of the office in no time. this treatment is a non-laser skin resurfacing that first exfoliates your skin then pumps vitamins back in. i left the office feeling relaxed and refreshed, but the best part was that even two days later my skin was still glowing. i will definitely be booking another appointment.
for my day-to-day skin care routine these are the products i use: first i cleanse my face with RéVive Exfoliating Cleanser Soft Polishing Cream then i follow-up with a toner RéVive Balancing Toner Skin Refresher. for the past few years i’ve added an eye cream to my repertoire RéVive Moisturizing Renewal Eye Cream as my crows-feet are definitely noticeable. i’m definitely not searching for the fountain of youth these days, hey, i’m 57. i don’t need to look like i’m 37 or even 47 for that matter. but i do want to look my best and have decided my skin is a worthy investment. RéVive skin care is definitely on the pricey side so if budget is a concern for you Olay has developed an amazing, affordable line that I’ve used and been happy with. check out your local drugstore or grocery store for availability. my nighttime regime alternates between a retinA compound from my dermatologist, and Biossance.
once a week, i add-on to my daily skin regime with two different products. the first is MALIN+GOETZ Glycolic Acid Pads that clear my pores and smooths my wrinkles. it feels like a mini-chemical peel but without the irritation. the second product is MALIN+GOETZ Clarifying Clay Mask which is a deep cleansing and exfoliation treatment for sensitive skin. i’m also prone to skin breakouts these days so if a pimple suddenly appears i treat it with MALIN+GOETZ Daytime Acne Treatment and at night i use MALIN+GOETZ Acne Treatment Nighttime. believe me, the zits will disappear in no time. i have tried drugstore products for my acne, but my skin is super-sensitive these days so i no longer do. i actually had to zip in to see my dermatologist a few months ago when i used an over-the-counter product and developed a serious skin rash. if a product works for me these days, i stick to it.
there you have it, my daily hair and skin care secrets. and ladies, don’t forget to set time aside in the next few weeks to pamper yourself, and reduce your stress (even a 10 minute mask feels heavenly). it can truly add joy to your holiday season!
