there’s nothing oscar likes better than his daily walk. as a matter of fact, i love them too. it gets my legs moving and my heart too. did you know that walking helps protect your joints, including your hips and knees? walking also helps improve your mood by helping to reduce anxiety. and, yes, as long as you have the proper footwear, any old clothes will do when you go for a walk. but if i’m going to invest in my health, i also invest in the proper workout gear. so join me today as we get fit with Sweaty Betty. don’t you love that name?
last week i introduced this brand when i wore a striped t-shirt dress from Sweaty Betty on my trip to Savannah. if you missed that post, read it here. Sweaty Betty is an activewear company that’s available at Nordstrom. it’s a London based brand that creates “gym to gin” looks. yep, they think it’s cool to sweat all while making you look and feel amazing.
on my walk with oscar, i chose a high-performance running skort in black. the fabric is smooth, stretchy, and breathable, which is important when the humidity level is ninety percent. the skort has a back zip pocket large enough to stash your keys or i.d. if you love to golf or play tennis, this skort is for you! the racerback running tank (limited sizes, similar here and here) keeps me moving comfortably with perforated side panels at the sides. underneath the tank is a black seamless yoga bra that’s perfect for low-impact sports. white sunglasses and sneakers (old, similar here) polish off the look. getting fit with Sweaty Betty is oh so easy.

although walks are good for us and our hearts, our bodies need more. muscles and joints weaken and range of movement deteriorates as we age and we begin to lose our skin’s elasticity, our muscle tone, and bone density. after menopause, our estrogen production slows. estrogen not only regulates menstrual cycles but helps with muscle recovery and bone density. so how do we keep our bones strong and our bodies flexible on the other side of menopause? both strength and flexibility help prevent falls. strength training with weights helps build muscle while balance practice keeps the spine in position and improves posture. pumping iron after age 50 has so many benefits by increasing bone mass and lowering the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. yoga and pilates keep your body strong and flexible. and they improve muscular and postural strength. so let’s get moving!
when i head to pilates class, i typically wear a jacket or sweater over my workout attire. how cute is this cropped sweater infused with color? yep, it’s from Sweaty Betty! it’s cotton, lightweight, and it’s adorable. the color-block high-waist leggings feature side pockets and self-wicking fabric. a simple yoga tank and yoga sports bra complete the look. didn’t i tell you it was easy to get fit with Sweaty Betty!

Hi, Beth. Thanks for the skort review.
Is the skirt really shorter than the shorts, as appears in the pictures? Do the shorts stay put while you exercise , or do they ride up? What about the waistband? Does it stay in place or does it roll over? And the pocket(s) – not big enough for a phone? I know that it’s nice to listen to music, books, etc while walking or talk with parents/friends, & having to carry the phone is a pain.
the shorts stay put. the skirt is about the same length as the shorts i pulled them down a scrunch so you could see both skirt and shorts. the pocket in the back is not big enough for a phone. only keys or i.d. honestly, i invested in an Apple Watch last year for just that reason. now i can listen to audiobooks or music on my walks with oscar without worrying if i have a pocket big enough to hold my phone. but, it’s just as fun to go on walks and just enjoy the sights and sounds of the neighborhood.
Love your posts. Some of the other websites for women our age seem to think you have to dress a certain way but you show that all styles are acceptable no matter what age if you do it tastefully. You and I have very similar taste. Wear what makes you happy about yourself and feel the glow!
thanks so much for your sweet words. style is always about personal preference. life is too short to get caught up in should’s and shouldn’ts.
I love the way Oscar poses with you. Look at his legs. He’s posing. Love 💕 it.
I think that is one of the best tanks I’ve seen this year. The sides are really nice. I’m trying to keep fit but the heat forces us inside unless we go out early.
it’s über comfy that’s for sure.
A great tip I got years ago from a personal trainer is to walk with a backpack that contains about 10-15% of your body weight. Doesn’t have to be fancy – bottles of water, or ziplocks of rice in there for the weight. But it will keep your core more engaged, and in doing that and carrying the weight, you get twice the calorie burn for no extra time and not much extra effort. Who doesn’t love that?!
Cute workout clothes! And great message too. I started OTF a couple of years ago when I was still (just) 40, and a third of the workout is weight based training. I was amazed at how much better it made me feel.
thanks for sharing! always love to hear people taking fitness seriously. and the benefits are tremendous.
Love your yoga pants shown here-wow! Really sharp looking!
Love all your looks! It’s you! Beautiful…
i thought they were so dang cute! a great workout pant too.
Good Beth keep that in shape you have an excellent figure!!
That is why you look good in all your outfits.
Have a nice rest after your workout
i hope you are going for walks too, gloria! we can never take our health for granted.
At 70, I play golf 5 times a week and while this may make a great skort for walking, biking and gym wear, it’s not a golf skirt. Golfers need pockets to hold an extra ball and tees and maybe a ball marker. Every golf skort and dress will have pockets!
yes, you golfers have to have plenty of pockets for your stash. every single member of my family from my parents to my kiddos are golf fanatics. yours truly is not. this skort does have a pocket but just one in the back.
Enjoyed your post. I walk every day and I am going to look into that skort-nice idea. I sometimes use a waist belt with a small pack attached for my keys, phone and anything else I might need on my walk. Nice to have Oscar walking with you.
that is a great idea! thanks for sharing.
Loved your helpful post today. Have been walking for years and doing water cardio classes. So nice that the YMCA is opened once again for water classes. Have missed those for over a year and a half. Good to see us older women enjoying our water work outs once again. We also work on body core and strength by using water weights. Thank you for keeping us informed on the importance of exercise at any age!
i bet you are so happy to get back to your workouts! nothing better than working out with friends.
