Fall brings to mind bounty from the earth, with warm and comforting colors, scents, textures and textiles!
With the change into this glorious Fall season, we love colored leaves, wheat, apples, cranberries, figs, plums, nuts and seeds, squash and pumpkins. We enjoy the fragrant, heartwarming scent of burning wood, spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove and vanilla. Can’t you just smell amber, cypress, musk, cider and suede?!

We turn our eyes and hearts to golds, sages and greens, oranges, tans, browns and burgundy. Punctuating with brilliant pinks, purples, limes and even black are fun and colorful!!

Creating ways to entertain that feed our souls, yet do not exhaust our spirit and bodies is essential!! Planning becomes ever more important. One of the best ways to enjoy our new season is to list and organize your entertaining needs, in advance. Yes, it is true… much of these needs can be delivered ~ presto!
Tips for entertaining
Knowing what requires needed lead time will prevent inevitable stress, as many items go out of stock or require lead time for special ordering. Monograming anything and dinnerware, glassware replacements…for sure!! FYI, Horchow has a wide range within their Monogram Shop. They monogram lovely Sferra linens, as well, all sizes! Of course, it is not too soon to think upcoming holiday gifting too!!
Perhaps hosting a buffet is a creative, time saving solution…A warm curried chicken, coconut milk and rice could create a lovely mix of comfort food and culture! Quality take-out in fabulous bowls and serveware are chic timesavers for sure! No need to spend countless hours on every offering for your entertaining menu.
Maybe you prefer hors d’hoevres, cheese and wine evenings…truffle cheese with a gorgeous cabernet is a favorite! Bite size canapés with seasonal drinks… cranberry juice with vodka with a twist of fresh basil would be festive and seasonal too! Don’t feel every celebration require a sit-down extravaganza!
Selections are visually appealing with an array of assorted nuts and cheeses on natural wooden and golden rimmed trays served with rich wines, cider, or bubbles in glassware that you have collected over the years. I find it charming to let everyone select their own glass…so personal, no matter what drink they choose.
Bar carts are fun to outfit with mint, basil, cinnamon sticks, rosemary sprigs or bamboo stirrers. Little bowls of orange peel garnish, apple slices, assorted nuts and olives and more.
Canape plates are a must…so charming! They are really bread and butter plates and available in most dinnerware patterns. Of course, it is fun to have an assortment…and guests can choose a favorite. Monograms are fun for these little plates and napkins too!! Let’s plan ahead! They also make very personal holiday gifts….
One of my most memorable parties was a Dessert Bon Voyage for a dear friend, who was moving away. Creating a meaningful guest list, with festive favorites, beautiful flowers and champagne are always in order!! This Fall, there are many reasons to create your own version!!
Some wonderful friends and hosts provided some insight to make entertaining look effortless. They shared their love of decorating with flowers for a particular period of time, then hosting several evenings in a row to extend their beautiful, creative arrangements for all to enjoy. So wise and economical! Flowering plants are another wonderful solution. Bromeliads are dramatic and come in a beautiful array of colors, that last for months!
