How to keep classic style modern, fresh, and relevant. Yesterday, I discussed preppy style, which is an offshoot of classic style. Today, the post is all things classic style. Some of you may be scratching your head as to what classic style is all about. But since a teenager, I’ve preferred classic style above all other styles. There’s something steady and true about pieces that never go out of fashion. Trench coats, pencil skirts, denim jackets, white shirts, and a nautical vibe. The classics are simplicity at their best and are well-designed. They can also be dressed up or down because they are forever stylish. Classic style speaks to me, but it also keeps me on my toes. The downside of classic style is that it can be stodgy and/or stale. Women of a certain age should always strive for a modern, fresh, and relevant look that doesn’t look as if we stepped out of the 1980s. I always ask, “How does a crewneck sweater go best with a blazer in 2023?” or “How can I style a pencil skirt with a leather moto jacket?” There’s nothing I love more than reinventing those classic pieces that are rooted in beauty but are practical and useful. If you love timeless classic style, you’re in good company. Yesterday I talked about Jackie Kennedy’s influence but Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Lauren Bacall, Victoria Beckham, Amal Clooney, and the Princess of Wales are all exemplary examples of classic style in motion.

Classic Style that’s modern, fresh and relevant.

One of my favorite designers is Ralph Lauren, who always keeps classic style modern, fresh, and relevant, but you don’t have to shell out big bucks to build a classic wardrobe. With key items on your shopping list, it’s easy to shop at Target, Walmart, or Kohl’s to fill in the gaps in your wardrobe. There’s absolutely no price point that defines the classics. Whatever your budget, a classic clothing item is created just for you. But don’t be afraid to invest in wardrobe staples that stand the test of time. Think about shapes, shades, and patterns that won’t date. Sheath or wrap dresses, a classic cut blazer, a pencil skirt, and black pumps in natural fabrics.

Today’s ootd is rooted in classic style since it’s all things nautical. Striped tees are always a great choice, but how about a long striped cardigan from Ralph Lauren that can double as a sweater dress? It looks chic paired with a sleeveless sweater shell from Ann Taylor and button-fly white denim from J.Crew Factory. White mules keep the outfit grounded in the neutrals.

Last weekend, I finally opened my three-season porch for the season. It’s one of my favorite spots in my home. When the weather is warm, I love to head out here with my computer for a change of scenery while I get some work done. It’s also a fabulous space to entertain friends and family.ย

Hi Beth, Classic style is my favorite as well. Itโs what I feel most comfortable in and getting the most for my money. I totally agree about staying relevant and modern since Iโm 62 now. This is where your blog comes in and influences me. Also, thanks for the look at your screened in porch. I just purchased a new home with a covered front porch and Iโm getting inspiration from your furnishings!
You will love your covered porch! They’re such a great spot to hang out.
Even the handsome dude lounging on the tabletop has classic style.
