i am happy to report i endured the target raid yesterday that commenced in the early morning hours. this was a first for me as i have never shopped on black friday nor stood in line for the latest release of xyz. but i’ve always been a big fan of lilly pulitzer and knew this collection would go fast. if i snoozed i’d definitely miss out. our local target is only a few muni stops from my home so i decided to give it a go. there’s a first time for everything, right? so i woke up early, ignoring my scratchy throat. i popped a zicam, brushed my teeth, slipped my glasses on, and headed out the door. since the bus decided to arrive on time i was dropped off in front of target twenty minutes before the doors opened. i’d already decided it the line snaked around the building my mission would be aborted, and i’d head to the local coffee shop and splurge on a cafe mocha. lucky for me there were only about thirty or so women (and a few men) lined up. so i qued up at the back of the line not knowing what to expect when the doors opened. and open they did promptly at eight o’clock am. when the glass doors were flung open i calmly started to make my way inside. it only took about a nano-second before the people behind me picked up their pace from 0 to 100 mph. i guess they knew the secret to this type of shopping is winner takes all. once inside i quickly ventured over to the lilly section. most of the women headed straight for the clothes racks scooping up most of the available dresses, tops, and palazzo pants in no time at all. but not to worry as i was really after the adorable, and very reasonably priced accessories. so while most of the shoppers were heaping their arms full of brightly patterned maxi’s and shifts i was happily deciding between the blue or green tote. i do have to mention i completely lucked out with my gold pineapple sandals that i dearly wanted since i first perused the lilly collection several days prior. when i first arrived at the shoe display the entire rack was picked clean, but when i circled back around several minutes later – lo-and-behold there was one pair dangling from the fixture, in my size! so here i am posing for today’s ootd happily showcasing part of sunday’s haul. i first discovered target back in 1986 when living in minneapolis. it has been one of my favorite stores since then. although, in those days you were able to charge all of your purchases to your dayton-hudson card. a lot has changed over the years, but not my love for this iconic store. long live tar-jay and their many collaborations with talented designers.
