Al Fresco Evenings: Summer Fashion & Lemon Lavender Cocktails

Happy Friday, gang! There’s something magical about these warm summer evenings—the way the light lingers just a little longer, and dinner seems to drift into twilight. When the weather cooperates, I’m the first to suggest we take things outside. This week, we’re leaning into casual summer style with a pair of breezy outfits perfect for backyard dinners or rooftop cocktails. And speaking of cocktails, we’re mixing up a Lemon Lavender Gin Spritz and serving it alongside Zucchini Ricotta Toasts—both as fresh and easy as the season itself.

Beth’s Casual Summer Style

There’s no need to sacrifice style for comfort when it comes to casual summer style. I’m wearing the Colette Wide Leg Crop Pants—a go-to silhouette that’s both flattering and relaxed. I paired them with a Similar Sweater Tank that adds subtle texture and breathability, ideal for al fresco evenings.

The Madewell Mila Slide Sandals are chic yet comfortable, and a gold belt adds a touch of polish. I finished the look with Shell & Raffia Earrings from Chico’s, a nod to coastal elegance that works even if you’re nowhere near the beach.

Kelly’s Casual Summer Style

My outfit is the kind of look I reach for again and again in the summer months: light layers, clean lines, and pieces that breathe. I styled the Sleeveless Essential Shirt from Ann Taylor with the Colette Magc Fabric Shorts, which truly live up to their name—comfortable, structured, and petite-friendly.

For shoes, I slipped on the Everlane The Day Crossover Slide Sandal—a perfect mix of minimal and modern. My green pair is from a few years ago, but the crossover style is available in other colors. I highly recommend these slides; the leather is butter-soft and so comfortable! This outfit fits the bill for effortless, casual summer style.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I make the Lemon Lavender Gin Spritz without alcohol?

A. Yes! Simply omit the gin and replace prosecco with sparkling water for a lovely mocktail with the same floral and citrus notes.

Q.  What type of bread works best for Zucchini Ricotta Toasts?

A. A crusty baguette or sourdough works beautifully. Just be sure to toast it well so it holds up to the creamy ricotta and zucchini ribbons.

Q. Can I prep these recipes ahead of time?

A. Absolutely. The ricotta mixture and zucchini can be prepped earlier in the day. Assemble just before serving for the best texture and flavor.

Sounds like a lovely summer cocktail! I have a question about one of the ingredients. What is lavender water? Is it something one can buy, or is it something one makes from fresh lavender?

    1. Beth Djalali

Yes! SF Bay – you can buy lavender water at your well-stocked bottle shop. or maybe try to buy online? I hope that helps! xo Kelly
