today we continue my home tour with a view of my kitchen and laundry room. as you can imagine, i spend a fair amount of time in both rooms. the kitchen is a place where the family often gathers to help fix a meal or sit for breakfast. the kitchen is the heart of the home, so it makes perfect sense that it’s a place of comfort.
my laundry room has come a long way since mr. style and i moved into our house 4 years ago. itâs a functional space that does triple duty. in addition to housing the washer and dryer, itâs where i store some of my larger serveware like ice buckets and platters. itâs also home to oscar and ollieâs dining area. i store their food in bins in the laundry room too.

i like to keep my laundry supplies organized and easy to reach. i keep my laundry soap in a glass jar â i can easily scoop my soap and see exactly when i need to head to the store for more.
one of my favorite features of my laundry room is a collapsible drying rack. it folds against the wall when not in use so itâs out of the way. so handy! when you have a small room doing triple duty like i do, itâs really important to find functional, space-saving devices like this drying rack or a wall mounted cordless vacuum. this Dyson cordless vacuum is small but mighty! and the fact that i can hang it on the wall to charge means itâs not taking up valuable floor space in my laundry room.

beyond creating a functional space, i have decorated my laundry room with small touches like the wooden pig lamp with the gingham shade, a large safety pin wall art and the laundry lettering in the window. itâs important that this room convey who i am just as the rest of my house does. decor makes chores like laundry feel less like a chore.
overall my kitchen is decorated in a modern farmhouse style. most evocative of this style is the chandelier and the dining table, along with the gingham curtains, the white cabinetry and open shelving. one of the first things mr. style and i did to change the look of our kitchen was to remove the upper cabinet doors. our kitchen is cozy and small, so opening up the cabinets created a sense of openness. when your dinnerware and glassware are displayed on open shelves, there is added depth, color and variation. open shelves also create a sense of casualness, which fits with the farmhouse aesthetic.

open shelves flanking the dining table display my cookbook collection, pitchers and mixing bowls, along with serveware and bakeware. i love being able to see exactly what i need. thereâs no looking through cabinets searching for that one baking dish.

we also added a stainless steel worktable as a kitchen island. the great thing about this worktable is that it is easy to move. when we do our fridays with oscar shoots, we usually move the island to give us more space. the worktable has a bottom shelf which is perfect for my KitchenAid stand mixer and other kitchen equipment i use most often.
my outfit today is cozy and casual. just like my kitchen! this graphic sweater from Talbots is the perfect way to give a casual outfit a playful look. i love the pop of red from the heart and the stripe detail along the neckline and shoulders.

Beth, thanks for the tour. Love the red accents. Also love the heart sweater.
i couldn’t resist the heart sweater. and it has stripes!
Beth, it is so great of you to share your beautiful home with all of us.
Love, love, love the laundry room! And the great touches in the kitchen really make it flow.
Finally your ootd is a hit â¤ī¸
Feeling inspired!

i love my laundry room too! just because i dread doing laundry doesn’t mean i have to dislike my laundry room. right?!
You kitchen is charming. I must suggest that you store your heavy appliances like your mixer and food processor at an ergonomic height. Lifting heavy items from below knee level or above shoulder height usually results in awkward postures thus increasing the potential of a musculoskeletal injury.
i wish i could, maggie. the previous owners hung the cabinets a smidge too low and i can’t store any equipment there. but, hey, we make do.
Beth, thank you for sharing your home with us! I just realized my laundry needs a facelift! OOTD is adorable, look forward to your blog everyday. Thank you for all your wonderful ideas!
my mother was a big believer that her laundry room was just as cute as the rest of her house. and she was so right! have fun with your redo.
Hi Beth, thank you for the tour of your kitchen and laundry room, it’s lovely that you feel you can share your home with everyone. After recently moving into our new home we are getting sorted and I’m loving going through the process. Thank you again xoxo
thanks, julie! and i bet you and graham are having fun getting your house organized and decorated. there’s nothing more fun than putting your house in order.
Thanks for sharing the home tour with us, Beth! I really enjoyed all of these posts. I love the mix of functionality and style you’ve achieved in your home.
you can have the most beautiful room but if it doesn’t pull double duty by being functional something is missing. form and function work hand in hand. thanks so much for stopping by!
Love it especially the laundry room
oscar and ollie love the laundry room too!
Had to chuckle a bit after reading your kitchen/laundry tour. I enjoy your blog, love your style and have felt a kinship each time I read a new post. I too live in the Athens area ( Watkinsville) have short, grey hair and love a classic style. We even have the same kitchen counters.đ. Sherry
hello, neighbor! maybe we’ll run into each other at Publix or Trader Joe’s my two favorite stores in Athens.
can you believe we ran into each other just days after you wrote in? it was such a pleasure meeting you. hope you ejoyed your dreary day. until next time. xo
I know! You are so kind. Until next time.
Very nice. Funny–we also removed the doors to a set of our cabinets on one wall that face our great room–the cathedral ceiling family room and dining area. I can store and display pretty items and then the cabinets that don’t face that area still have doors on them and I store canned goods and pots/pans, etc. We don’t have a pantry, but it works this way. I love your built-in shelves in your kitchen area! We painted all our cabinets white as they were a dark wood stain and I felt it darkened the room too much. It made a huge difference and highlights the pieces we put in the open shelving area. I love it.
Your sweater/jeggings are a fun look, too.
i bet you love your white cabinets. it does brighten up a room. even though we have lots and lots of windows the house is still dark what with all of the mature trees that surround the house. white was definitely the way to go. we even painted the fireplace bricks white. love it!
Your home is very stylish, just like you. While I think style can be learned, I believe some people have an innate sense of style…and you are clearly the latter!
that’s a high compliment. i’ll take it! my mother always told me i had an eye for style.
Love your laundry room ideas!
Always love your style.
Thank you đ
a laundry can be a happy place in spite of all the clothes stacked up to be ironed. thanks for stopping by.
Especially loved the tour of your laundry room. Iâm jealous that you have a large room to display things. I was happy to see the heart sweater. I wore a sweater today with a big red apple on it that reminded me of your sweater. I also noticed that you are letting your hair grow. I love it.
your apple sweater sounds adorable! i love my heart sweater. always love to add a bit of fun to an outfit.
I like the industrial feel to the laundry room, we are working on ours and i might take some inspiration from yours.
