Happy Friday, ladies! I hope your week went well. Sometimes, the shorter work week feels like it’s twice as long. At least that’s how it felt to me. Monday was the trip home from Tybee which went off without a hitch. Tuesday I bopped off to the Oral Surgeon and had a broken tooth extracted. Now it’s time to let it heal for three months before we move on to an implant. I can’t even tell you what a relief it is to finally have the broken tooth removed. It’s been a long three month process as it took two months to get into the Oral Surgeon for a consultation and another month to schedule surgery. Onward! We Welcome September with Casual Style!

I always look forward to Fridays with Oscar as Kelly stops by to whip up a yummy appetizer or main dish. Since it’s football season stay tuned to a post devoted to tailgating. But today it’s all about a mushroom flatbread that I know you will want to try and a Blackberry Bourbon Renewal that’s the perfect accompaniment.

Are you ready to kick off Friday? I know I am. And I always wear a comfy outfit. This week I popped an oversized plaid shirt over a navy tee and black cargo pants. A third layer always comes in handy this time of year as one never knows what mother nature will dish up weather-wise.

Kelly's Outfit: Fall Chinos

It's been too hot to wear chino pants this summer, but now it's starting to cool down, and I am breaking out my chinos! These are from last year, but there is always a good selection of chinos at J.Crew Factory.

I have my Relaxed Cashmere Tee back in action today, as I mentioned yesterday, this top is a go-to. I am also happy to break out my sneakers for the season. These Onitsuka Tiger Sneakers have been a favorite of mine for years. They are very light and comfortable.

Blackberry Bourbon Renewal

Fall is a great time to enjoy bourbon cocktails that highlight fresh fruit. With berries coming into season, today we are featuring a refreshing blackberry bourbon cocktail.

Description

Makes 2 Cocktails

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 cup Bourbon

4 tbsp. Lemon Juice

2 tbsp. Crème de Cassis

2 tbsp. Blackberry Syrup*

2-4 dashes Angostura Bitters

Lemon Wedge, Fresh Blackberries, as garnish

*Blackberry Syrup

1/4 cup Fresh Blackberries

1/4 cup Sugar

1/4 cup Water

Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

Add all ingredients (except the garnishes) to an ice-filled shaker. Shake until very cold. Strain into ice-filled rocks glasses and garnish with a lemon wedge and a whole blackberry.

*Blackberry Syrup

In a small saucepan, bring the sugar, blackberries and water to a boil. Remove from heat and mash the berries. Let the mixture steep for 10 minutes. Strain into a jar. Store in the fridge, makes 6 tablespoons of syrup.

Mushroom Goat Cheese Flatbread

This Mushroom Goat Cheese Flatbread is so easy and you can customize it to your liking. We are adding red grapes, pecans, and hot honey to the flatbread, giving it a fall cheeseboard feel. It's a great appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

1 Prepared Pizza Dough

4-6 oz. Mixed Mushrooms (like cremini, button, and oyster), sliced

Kosher Salt, Black Pepper

Olive Oil

Goat Cheese

~1 cup Red Grapes, sliced in half

~1/2 cup Pecans, broken into large pieces

~2 tbsp. Fresh Parsley, finely chopped

~1 tbsp. Fresh Greek Oregano

Hot Honey

Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400º F. Stretch dough on a parchment-lined sheet pan, to mostly fill the sheet pan with the dough. Let the dough come up to room temperature.

Saute the mushrooms over medium-high heat with about 2 tablespoons of water. Let the water boil off then drizzle the mushrooms with olive oil and saute until the mushrooms begin to brown. Season with a little kosher salt and black pepper. Remove from heat and let cool.

Evenly cover the dough with chunks of goat cheese.

Then, evenly top with the sauteed mushrooms. Then sprinkle the red grape halves evenly over the top. Sprinkle on the pecans. Drizzle the flatbread with olive oil and bake for 15 minutes until the dough is puffed and golden.

When the flatbread comes out of the oven, drizzle the hot honey over the top and sprinkle on the fresh herbs. Slice it how you like it and serve.
