Happy Friday, gang – and Happy New Year! Phew! What a way to kick off a new year by ringing in a wedding. I will share a few photos next week along with a recap, but the bride was beautiful, and the wedding went off without a hitch. Plus, the weather was picture-perfect, with the sun shining above and the air crisp and clear, if not a bit chilly. After brunch on Monday, the bride and groom headed on their honeymoon and yours truly drove back to Athens. I hit the ground running Tuesday morning and haven’t come for air since then. Guess who’s happy Friday has finally arrived? Time to slow down, regroup, and recharge. This weekend, I’ll tackle putting my house back in order, but it’s Friday, so time to kick off the weekend with a cocktail and yummy salad. And I do mean yummy - I had two servings.

Fridays are always the day I slip into a cute and comfy outfit. I’ve been experimenting with different denim silhouettes for an upcoming post, so I tried Talbots straight-leg denim on for size. Sometimes, with white denim, I size up one size for a smooth fit, but I’m wearing a size 8 today and don’t think any bumps or lumps show. Silhouettes are definitely trending looser these days, to which I say Amen! Boot cut, flare, or straight leg are my favorites. But I still like a cropped flare, especially with boots.

An easy style formula this time of year is denim + sweater. A lightweight cashmere sweater from Banana Republic is the perfect companion to white denim. Camel and white is one of my all time favorite color combinations that’s chic and sophisticated.
Ballet flats are classic shoes, in my humble opinion, but they’re trending this year, so there are more to choose from. A classic cap toe looks fantastic with jeans or dresses, and I wear mine year-round. Talbots always carry a nice selection.
Julie Vos jewelry is classic and well-made. I own several pieces and am always looking to add more to my collection. Crystal stud earrings and link bracelet are several years old but still available.

I found my new favorite denim style from Gap, the High-Rise Cheeky Straight Jeans. These jeans remind me of Levi's 501 jeans, with a button fly and a straight leg. I have had these jeans on repeat since Christmas and they wear really well. They're not too stiff, and they don't stretch out in all the wrong places after several wears.
The High-Rise Cheeky Straight Jeans come in Regular, Tall, and Petite sizes, and at only $55 (on sale right now!), I went back for a second pair in denim blue.

Another item on repeat for me all winter, are my Birkenstock Shearling Boston Clogs. I wear slippers at home, and I just love slipping into these clogs if I need to head out the door. No socks needed!
As a fun reminder of Beth's Mediterranean Cruise, we are making Limoncello Spritzes, since it was one of the drinks Alex and Beth enjoyed by the seaside in Nice, France.
This is also a great low-alcohol cocktail if you're cutting back in the new year.
Makes 2 Cocktails
3 oz. Limoncello
2 oz. Pomegranate Juice
6 oz. Prosecco
2 oz. Club Soda
In an ice-filled wine glass, add the limoncello and pomegranate juice. Top with Prosecco and club soda. Give it a gentle stir. Garnish with Pomegranate seeds and a lemon wheel.
I have been making a version of this Apple Fennel Salad for years. Sometimes instead of radishes, I will add orange or grapefruit slices. It's a fresh and crisp salad guaranteed to wake up your taste buds – a perfect salad to start the new year!
1 Granny Smith Apple, quartered and sliced thinly
1 Fresh Fennel Bulb, halved and sliced thinly
1 Shallot, sliced thinly
4-6 Radishes, sliced thinly
Pomegranate Seeds
Toasted Pecans, roughly chopped
Dressing
1/4 cup Olive Oil
1/3 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1-2 tsp. Dijon Mustard
Kosher Salt and Pepper to taste
Combine the dressing ingredients in a jar and shake vigorously to emulsify. Add some dressing to a medium bowl. Transfer the apple slices to the bowl and toss to coat the apple slices in the dressing.
Then add the fennel slices, shallot slices, and radish slices. Pour on the rest of the dressing and toss to combine.
Transfer the salad to a serving plate and scatter the pomegranate seeds and toasted pecan pieces over the top.
Ollie is stealing the show this week, as she was in rare form behind the scenes! She is such a hoot! Oscar was more than happy to play second fiddle and let her enjoy the limelight. Kids!
