fridays with oscar

well, i just had to find a reason to wear my red flats. nothing beats them this time of year when it’s time to look festive. but they’re also fantastic to wear year round with dresses, skirts or pants. you’ve seen me wear them here and here. aren’t they adorable with a pair of blue jeans and tartan plaid puffer vest? perfect for milder weather. it’s currently 50 degrees, no snow, and sunny. does it get any better?!

oscar and i are waiting with bells on our toes for the last of the djalali crew to arrive. they’re on their way so let the christmas festivities begin! this is the most wonderful time of the year.

traditionally, we open presents christmas eve. it’s a very low-key affair with a menu that’s easy peasy. there’s an assortment of cheese and fruit boards, relish trays, honey spiral ham, roasted garlic shrimp (and cocktail sauce), cream of wild mushroom soup, stuffed spinach and goat cheese mushrooms. and a pineapple cheese ball. here’s the recipe:

16 oz cream cheese

8 oz crushed pineapple

2 tablespoons chopped onion

dash of garlic salt

1 cup finely chopped pecans

mix together all ingredients except chopped pecans, refrigerate 1 hour. press cheese into a ball then roll in finely chopped pecans. it’s sweet and savory and yummy.

p.s. our mailman arrived just as we started snapping our photos. guess who’s deathly afraid of oscar and had to deliver a package?! i held on tight to oscar but i’ve never seen anyone move so fast.
