fridays with oscar takes a spin on classics

august has arrived, and we are busy here at the djalali house with a few outdoor diy projects. ahem, i have all three of my kiddo’s home to help with some heavy lifting. there are several zones to our backyard, and zone 1 is getting a major overhaul. the first step was to remove a tree which a local tree removal company did two weeks ago. afterward, our landscape contractor removed the stump and roots then tilled the yard to primp and preen it for grass, shrubs, raised beds to grow herbs and a barbecue station. there’s always prep work before any project commences inside or out.
needless to say between airport runs, catching up with my kiddo’s, then putting them to work, mr. style and i have been busy. plus, i don’t know about you, but we are trying to enjoy every minute of summer that seems to be disappearing rather quickly…
whenever that happens, i like to reach into the vault and share a timeless classic with you. today’s fridays with oscar is a repeat from our san francisco days. as a matter of fact, it is a photo that commemorated our 32nd anniversary. tomorrow we will celebrate 34!
hopefully, you will enjoy a little san fran eye candy with a few painted ladies smack dab in the background. plus, this haircut is one of my all-time favorites. now that i’ve finally found a fab stylist here in georgia i’m toying with the idea of sporting an asymmetrical cut once again.
but first, let’s talk about timeless classics and how they work in tandem with trends. a pair of black pants belongs in everyone’s closet. probably more than one pair as they are so versatile. this cropped pair is by banana republic but take a look at this on-trend wide-leg pair or the very popular sloan fit here. sloans are my all-time favorite black pant as they hide a multitude of sins and are comfortable to boot. and i do mean comfortable.
this top is summery but with a twist – boucle fabric that’s traditionally favored for winter. but i love it when fashion puts a spin on things. similar top here and here.
black sandals are classic and are closet workhorses as they go with everything. take a look at this block heel here or here. block heels are also easy on your feet.
pearls are my go-to gem stone. they look terrific with a single strand or layered as in today’s ootd. coco chanel loved to throw on more than one necklace at a time so let’s take a cue from the master.
clutch handbags elevate a simple outfit, and i love this one by mark and graham that adds a pop of color. similar here and here.
okay, ladies, are you ready for the weekend? ours got an early kick-off this week. but before i sign off oscar and i wish each of you a lovely weekend

thank you! it’s been so much fun having all three kiddos home to celebrate. they’ve been along for the ride from the beginning. xo
A very happy anniversary! The yard sounds like it’s going to be beautiful–and so nice that the guys helped out. Hope you get to celebrate with Mr Style. Congratulations!
thanks, sue! i cannot believe it’s been 34 years. I thought i was 34… but it was great fun having all my men gathered together. and they did a great job with our barbeque area and setting the rest of the hardscape into place. now all we need is fall and cooler temps to arrive so we can plant our perrennials and roll the sod! xo
Happy anniversary to you and Mr. Style! Enjoy your time of celebration with all of your gents at home at once!
thanks, stephanie! it’s been great having the clan underfoot again. xo
Wishing you and Mr Style a fabulous anniversary! There are benefits to having big, strong sons! Your landscaping will be so nice when it is all finished. xoxo
thanks, donna! i have no idea how the years zipped by so quickly. xo
