friday cool | fridays with oscar
hey gang! another friday is upon us. as my quest for the perfect summer top wraps up on the blog, i want to close the week with a casual sleeveless tank. we’re all about friday cool this week, but this isn’t your plain ol’ casual sleeveless top… we also have a delicious soup which can be served hot or cold – perfect for these hot summer days. and a slushy-style cocktail, minus the blender! it’s all here today, on fridays with oscar.
colorful outfit of the day
i’ve been loving these tie waist seaside pants from J.Crew lately. so perfect for a casual day. they’re a very light cotton, and in the chambray color, they’re a great substitute for denim.
to round out summer tops week, today i have another great Anthropologie find. a colorful sleeveless tank with gorgeous embroidery. the deep saturated color you get from embroidery, versus a print really adds something special to this top.
metallic toe ring sandals from Banana Republic complete my friday cool look today. metallic sandals add panache to a casual outfit. any metallic sandal will go with everything, so they are a must-have and a go-to!
cold pea soup
this soup is a fresh and healthy way to start a meal on a hot summer day. serve it as a starter, or have it as a main course. its bright green color is so appetizing!
cold pea soup with herbed olive oil
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1.5 tsp kosher salt, more to taste
- 2 16 oz bags of frozen sweet peas
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- freshly ground black pepper to taste
- herbed olive oil, or plain olive oil (optional)

Melt butter in a large heavy pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook, stirring often, until softened but not browned, 6–8 minutes. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 2 cups water, stir to combine, and bring to a boil. Add peas and cook, stirring occasionally, until just tender, about 2 minutes.

Remove pot from heat and stir in yogurt. Purée soup in a blender or in the pot using an immersion blender, thinning with water if soup is too thick, until smooth. Season with salt and pepper and let cool to room temperature. Transfer to a resealable container, cover, and chill at least 2 hours or up to overnight.

Divide soup among bowls and top each with a swirl of Herbed Olive Oil.
an immersion blender makes this recipe a one pot dish. but a blender will work too. you just might have to blend it in batches.
frozen sgroppino cocktail
this cocktail is so light, cool and refreshing. the frozen sgroppino has the consistency of a blended cocktail without needing a blender and ice. this drink calls for lemon sorbet to get the smoothness of a blended cocktail.
frozen sgroppino
- 1 oz vodka
- 1 oz limoncello
- 1 scoop lemon sorbet
- 1 splash prosecco
- 1 lemon wheel as garnish

mix all ingredients in a bowl, mix with a whisk until smooth. garnish with a lemon wheel

I really enjoy your Frirday posts. early on, my husband and I had 2 Shepherds. We have now downsized to a Cavalir Spaniel,but I still miss the Shepherds. As to the top…love the lines and I’m I fan of embroidery however, I’d need to be careful of where those dark embroidered )( sit on my chest. I don’t like to draw attention to my bust and wouldn’t want them hugging my breasts lol!

Oscar is the most photogenic dog. He looks so stylish. I do like the colorful top which will look great come fall with a denim jacket. The pants I’m not sure about. I’m short so I think they will make me look frumpy. They look great on you however,
