Happy Friday, gang! I hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th of July! The Djalali clan gathered together on the 3rd and attended the Star Spangle BBQ at the Georgia Club. It’s a yearly tradition that started when Mr. Style and I moved to Athens. Nothing better than family, a few burgers and hotdogs, and a beautiful fireworks show at the end of the evening. And guess what? We didn’t get rained out this year! For three years running, we’ve had to gather our lawn chairs in the pouring rain and head home. But this year, the sun shone above without a cloud in the sky and the fireworks went off without a hitch. It’s Friday, so let’s continue Celebrating the 4th of July Weekend!

Today, Kelly has California Wrap Burgers on deck and I whipped up a Bay Breeze Cocktail. And since it’s hotter than Hades I slipped into an airy pair of gauze shorts and a striped linen sweater. I’m always trying to beat the heat in style and I think I accomplished the task with this cute and comfy outfit.

I have been living in these Linen Blend Easy Shorts I purchased from Banana Republic Factory since the temperatures ticked up. Pull-on shorts styles are all the rage this summer and I am here for it. It's amazing how much more comfortable it is to go without buttons and zippers in the heat of summer!

We are fortunate to have Independence Day fall on a Thursday this year, since many people can take today off for a nice, long 4-day 4th of July Weekend. It's the perfect time to relax and enjoy the summer! Though this weekend is a stay-cation for us, we are celebrating with California-themed recipes.

This fun take on the classic ‘80s cocktail the Sea Breeze swaps the grapefruit juice for pineapple juice for a summery, tropical flavor. When I think of California I think of the Bay Area, since that’s where we lived, so the Bay Breeze is a perfect reminder of the Northern California Coast.
Makes 2 Cocktails
3 oz. Vodka
6 oz. Cranberry Juice
3 oz. Pineapple Juice
Garnish: Lime Wheel
Fill a highball glass with ice.
Add the vodka, cranberry juice, and pineapple juice and stir briefly to combine.
Garnish with a lime wheel.
These California Burger Wraps have avocado, which is certainly reminiscent of the Golden State, but I suspect it’s the lettuce-for-buns swap that makes these truly Californian. LOL! Regardless, these are a fun and easy way to take a burger to a lighter level.
1 lb. Ground Beef
1 Egg
Kosher Salt
Black Pepper
8 Bibb Lettuce Leaves
1/3 cup Crumbled Feta Cheese
2 tbsp. Mayonnaise
1/2 Ripe Avocado, sliced
1/4 Chopped Red Onion
Quartered Cherry Tomatoes
Combine the mayo and feta, set aside.
In a bowl, combine the ground beef with the egg, mix lightly until the egg is incorporated.
Create 8 ½-inch thick burger patties and season with kosher salt and pepper. Grill or broil burgers for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until the internal temperature reaches 160º F.
Place each burger in a lettuce leaf and add a dollop of the feta mayo. Top with avocado slices, red onion, and tomatoes.

Hope you had a nice 4th. It has been chilly here in Minnesota and rained the last 2 days. Suppose to rain the next 2 days also. Ick! Been a rainy Sping and Summer. Keep cool all of you and also Ollie and Oscar.

Has anyone else found ordering from Talbots extremely frustrating the last few months? Apparently they are taking orders, collecting payments and never shipping from warehouse. Have been a long time customer but not any longer. Be advised!
