There are days when the world feels a little heavier—a reminder that grace in uncertain times matters more than ever. When the news scrolls by faster than your first sip of coffee, and suddenly the day feels… different. Today is one of those days.
The headlines out of Iran are unsettling, and if you’re feeling uneasy or unsure of what to do with that—you’re not alone. These moments remind us how quickly life can change, and how much we all crave a bit of steadiness.
Style at a Certain Age is usually where we gather for fashion, lifestyle, and everyday beauty. But today, I’m pausing. Because sometimes the most meaningful thing we can share is space.

Leading with Grace in Uncertain Times
Grace in uncertain times isn’t just a sentiment—it’s a strategy. As someone who runs a business rooted in authenticity, I’ve learned that grace must lead—especially on days like this.
When major world events happen, I take a beat and reassess. That might mean:
- Pausing a scheduled campaign
- Postponing a blog post that suddenly feels tone-deaf
- Talking with my team about what still feels appropriate to share
It’s not about reacting out of emotion. It’s about responding with intention.
This isn’t the time for “business as usual.” It’s a moment to lead with empathy, not ego. To prioritize connection over content. And to trust that showing up authentically matters more than maintaining momentum.

What I Do Personally
Beyond the brand and the blog, I’m just Beth—a mom, a Bebe, a woman walking her dog, and wondering what the next headline will bring.
Here’s what I do when the world feels off-kilter:
- I take Oscar for a walk. No podcast. No phone. Just fresh air and quiet.
- I light a candle. It doesn’t fix the world, but it calms my corner of it.
- I call someone I love, even if the conversation is quieter.
- I pray. Sometimes with words, sometimes just with stillness.
- I remind myself that grace is often found in the small, steady things.
These aren’t big actions—but they’re grounding ones. And in moments like this, that’s more than enough. For those seeking calm today, Headspace offers free meditations for anxious moments.

Where Style Fits In
On days like this, fashion might feel a little less important—but I still believe in its quiet power to lift our spirits. Getting dressed can be an act of hope, of resilience, of joy. And when the time feels right, we’ll get back to that.
But today? I’m giving space for what’s real.
If you’re feeling distracted, overwhelmed, or unsure—know that you’re in good company. The world is a lot right now. And sometimes, simply choosing calm over chaos is the best we can do.
We’ll return to style posts soon. So for now, I’m embracing grace in uncertain times, and trusting we’ll find beauty again soon.
With care,
Beth
Thank you for this! ♥️ I’m the same age as you and so many things have happened in the last few years, that I never have or thought I’d see in my lifetime. We need to get back to kindness and acceptance. Regina

I love your comments everyday but especially today on this June 22nd with the world facing chaos I went to church said a prayer for world Peace and a candle
Went to church said a prayer for world Peace and a candle for everyone’s safety especially for our troops
Hi Beth, Thank you for today’s post. You are so right — while we cannot control what happens in the wider world, we can help ourselves and those around us by promoting steadiness and calm. Sometimes we do not realise how much others are comforted by the presence of a person who stays calm and offers considered advice.
Well done. Well said.
Thank you…
Take all the time you need, Beth. Very unsettling times. Go with grace.
Thank you for the our words and your sensitivity.
This is truly a difficult day. We began our worship service with a song of lament this morning. That is still my feeling, but we must remain hopeful. Again, thank you for speaking out.
Hi Beth,
I embrace your insights and thoughts on where you are at during this time of uncertainty. Sitting in a quiet place and trying to make sense of what is going on in the world is comforting. Embracing, Peace, and asking for Grace feels good.
Thank you so for sharing your heart.
Thank you
Thank you for a wonderful and sensible message.
Beth, thank you for your message and for acknowledging the weight of what’s happening in the world. I’m trying to find meaningful ways to navigate all the turmoil around us—it’s not easy. I truly share your concern after yesterday’s events and am holding onto hope for brighter days ahead.
Thank you for your message. We always have to remember that God is in control. Sure we have seen unsettling times through -‘out our lives and yes prayers are needed. We are blessed that we have leadership that is for us we thank God for this. We keep going everyday we are a blessed nation. Keep up the wonderful blogs you are a shining positive person in a lot of lives you make a difference. Thanks beth
God is on the throne. Amen
Thank you for your thoughtful words today Beth💕🙏🏻
Thank you, Beth.
Thank you so much for this message. It made me stop, take a deep breath, and pause.
Nice message Beth without really putting out your opinion on the Iran situation. I do like the “ take care of ourselves “ motto but Iran cannot have nuclear bombs. They call Israel little satan and the USA big satan. Trump hmgave Iran 60 days to do the peace treaty. As with all the “ sky is falling” theater from msm
And you just had to inject politics into reasonable discourse, Suzzane. Beth is correct in calling for grace in uncertain times because it is certainly needed when disruptors raise their ugly heads.
What a wonderful message to all of us who are struggling with the world. On Tuesday’s where we meet at the church for time together and study, we have tears. Anxiety is high and sometimes tempers flare. Thanks for the reminder that we need those friends, now more than ever. I hope I can share this week, if it’s ok with you.
Dear Beth, thank you for today’s beautiful, thoughtful and inspiring article. In this time of uncertainty , a little bit of grace can certainly go a long way. Our pastor encouraged us to pray in this morning’s service, too. When things are out of our control , I shall out my faith in a higher power.
Sending my love from a mom, a bebe and a woman to another.
Recently I’ve felt the need to have more quiet times for reflection and prayer, too. So many situations in the world are not within my control. It’s disheartening what’s currently happening with Israel. Even the weather is unstable and unpredictable due to the fires in Canada recently. Take the time you need to regain calmness and be re-energized. Fashion and style will remain.
Thank you, I need to hear this.
Your post today was spot on with what is going on in the world. You showed grace, thoughtfulness and insight with your words and sentiments.
You’re so right! Wish I could have one of those yummy cocktails with you at your lovely home.

Wonderfully said Beth.
Thank you for all you do.
Beth, thank-you for this heartfelt post. It’s hard not to be overwhelmed by the headlines. Sharing your thoughts about how to cope in the more uncertain-than-ever-times is sure to be bring a bit of comfort to your many followers. I know it is that for me today.
Thank you for this post. We all need grace at times like this. I do like your suggestions to help in these troubling times.
Thank you for that calming message. Yes, today is a day of seeking peace in this chaotic world. Thank you for intuitively understanding that.
Thank you for your very welcome but unexpected post. The uncertainty of these times can feel isolating, and your post recognizes this.
Thank you, Beth. I appreciate your thoughts at this time.
Thanks! 🙏
Thanks, your compassionate post is one of many reasons I look forward to reading your blogs.
Your compassionate post is one of many reasons I look forward to reading your blogs.
Dear Beth,
Jou always find the right words to express your feelings and jou also comfort others.
I totally agree with you.
Take your time.
My husband passed away 3 years ago. In one of those dark hours I found jou. I read your story. It gave me a lot of support.
I have deep respect for you.
Since then I have followed jou and I have already learned a lot.
You are a wonderful woman. Of course, with “Style at a certain age” you earn your income but you give so unimaginably more with al your heart!
Thank jou very much for everything.
I wish you and your family the very best!❤️
With love, Rosi
Thank you Beth for this calming message. Had brunch with my 23 year old grandson after church today. He is a sweetheart who has had much success in life. But now having some setbacks. Yet, has a positive outlook with real purpose in life rather than just making money. I think we both received grace today in sharing this positive time. Then I came home to read your message. Just spot on for a day when insight is needed. Thank you!
Thank you Beth for keeping it real. I really appreciate your words of wisdom. On a personal note, I was in graduate school when the shah of Iran was toppled. A student acquaintance of mine was married to a grad student from Iran. The two were devastated by the events in the husband’s homeland. He had many family members back in Iran and wondered if he would ever see them again. He felt it was quite perilous for him to go home. I lost touch with the couple after finishing my master’s degree in 1979. I do not know the end of their story, but I think of them in times like these. If it is not too personal (I certainly understand if it is), may I ask if your late husband was Iranian or of Iranian descent?
Beth, thank you for always showing up with your authentic self and sharing your heart with us, your readers. Grace is, indeed, often found in the “small, steady things, as well as in the profound. I take comfort in knowing that everything, including me, is in the hands of the One who loves me best. He loves you, too.
Blessings,
Jo
Beth,
I’ve followed you (and your family) from the beginning & understand why you are unsettled today . Please know that I as well as millions of others(I believe ) are also VERY unsettled . Just know how grateful I am for your column and I send prayers for grace & calm for you and your family & for our whole country.
Thank you for your thoughts. Beautifully said.
What a lovely and heartfelt post. Sending you light and understanding.
Thank you for this Beth. I one hundred percent agree that grounding and connection are incredibly important. I also appreciated that you spoke of concrete ways we can ground and connect.
My own flavor of all this is working to create a culture of care. It often feels like empathy has gone missing these days. I believe we cannot let that happen. Grounded care and connection are the antidotes.
Jacalyn
Thank you Beth. A welcome post as I’m sure we’re all feeling the same way.
Today a sat quietly, had some coffee while “weeding” through some old photo albums. Later I did some ironing while watching Lifetime movies. A bit of calm and normalcy in the wake of things beyond our control.
Take care…
Thank you Beth for your thoughts. They mean so much in these times. Peace to all of us. Katie
I am not a woman but I am interested in style and fashion I always enjoy your blog and just read your article about the uncertainty of the world. I have to say I have anxiety and I really get anxious about all this I am fortunate I have a very supportive and understanding spouse and an amazing best friend that I turn to for support but I just want to say I really appreciate what you wrote I was very comforting to me I just wanted to say thank you for your comforting words thank you again your fan, Steve
Thank you.
Oh Beth-you are so right. We do need to take a deep breath, say a big prayer and know that God has a plan and today that may all happen in my worst looking outfit ever. But in the scheme of things what I look like is such an insignificant thing in the big world picture isn’t it?
Thanks for appreciating that as well. God bless you.
Thank you for your inspiring letter. I follow you on you tube and always enjoy your calm demeanor and advice. I, too, am a grandmother (8) and I’m so worried about their future. So I have joined organizations that are active in trying to make the world a peaceful and inclusive place for all people. I’m learning to do meditative walking, also. I’m lucky to have hills near my home where I find peace. I hope you find peace and calmness.
To know that when the world is in chaos, you are grounded and in touch with our reality to take a stand and address what I believe we are all feeling: uncertainty, for our world, our country but especially for our families. For our grandchildren. What world will we be leaving them? I deeply respect you taking a step back. Thank you!
Thanks for heartfelt post, most timely. It helps to know others feel as I do, slightly off kilter, headlines seem unreal, not sure what’s happening, or what to do. Thanks for your excellent suggestions!
Thank you so much for this post, Beth. Thank you too for the suggestions on various things to do when the world feels off kilter (well put!). When I’m feeling out of sorts, if I do go out for a walk, no headphones, just me looking around and taking time to enjoy the flowers and the fresh air, I always feel better afterward for having done that. And also, I feel better when I see that someone whom I follow online, like you, takes the time to write a post like you’ve done today. Even if the message is “just breathe”, it helps me so much, because it’s a reminder that we’re not alone. That even if we don’t know each other, we’re not alone. And that’s reassuring. So, thank you, Beth. I appreciate what you’ve written.
I love your Style you make me feel Good about getter older That will still matter you are lovely and I may not have the money to buy the items you model but your a great guide to the things I have and what I can purchase.. Thank you again ..
Thank you Beth for your sensitive and thoughtful message.
Such a loving graceful message in this worrisome time. Thank you
Thank you for your calming message in these troubled times. It all seems overwhelming at the moment.
My daughter and son in law were both in the RNZ Navy and did a tour in the Arabian Gulf in Operation Enduring Freedom protecting the Straits of Hormuz. Combined they served for over 20 years. Now their son, who is nearly 21, and studying engineering at university is of an age to be called upon to serve. My son is a pilot, commercial jets now but he was an air ambulance pilot for the Children’s Hospital so he is also a prime candidate for call up.
I guess all we can do is wait to see what will happen.
Thank you Beth!!
Thank you!! That means so much!
Thank you for this thoughtful post.
Thank you so much for your calming message. We do all need to put our lives on pause for just a moment and be grateful for what we have in spite of the turmoil in the world. Thanks again for your wise words. Kathleen.
How very special you are taking time out to recognize we
are all in this world together! Thank you for taking the time to share and address all of the feelings we have in common!
I appreciate you!
Thank you!
Dear Beth, I always felt that you were a very decent and sensitive human being. Now I know. Thank you for sharing. Yesterday we had a family reunion for our grand-daughter’s birthday and when the children were playing and swimming we could not avoid talking about the world… I wish you all the best. Danielle Tourville, Montréal, Canada
Yes feeling the same way! Feels like crazy town. Walking helps me too and I try to be grateful for all the little blessings around me.
Actually I could have used the usual blog today. And I feel safer that a nuclear weapon site has been obliterated. I think the tone of today was discouraging. Mi was looking forward to the usual.
Thanks
I am so thankful for your post. It was really touching and heartfelt and I thank you for sharing it with us.
I totally agree with you and prayer has been my sustainer. I am a victim of 9/11 so any kind of military intervention would draw me back to the WTC. I am proud of our military and the security I know they provide for all. Prayer and Grace. Thank you for your message today.
Thank you.
I truly appreciate that you are addressing not only the news out of Iran, but the realities of our world. My blog is very, very small. I rarely address the big issues because, at this point, I can’t afford to lose subscribers. I thank you for all of your words of grace. They are exactly what is needed.

Thank you, Beth, for your caring and sincere words of wisdom and compassion. Fashion aside, you have always been an inspiration in your leadership, your kindness and your honesty.
Wonderful post. I just had time to read it. It was very helpful.
Thanks for thoughtful words. Doing positive, small things always help
Keep sharing
As another reader noted, this was a graceful, and heartfelt, pause.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts today.
Thanks so much for taking the opportunity to comment on these unsettling times which cause so much stress. Those who have loved ones in the military are frightened. Those who have loved ones in the countries being bombed, are on tenterhooks worried about their basic survival. Many of us in the US are worried about what repercusions there will be that will negatively affect us.
Thank you Beth for the reminder to take a deep breath when the world feels scary. I turn to my garden, to my daughter and son and to my dear friends. I make a point to do a small act of kindness for someone in my life.
Thank you so much, Beth for addressing this topic in your post. It helps to know others feel the same. And by the way, I can’t remember if I congratulated you on becoming a Bebe. Congratulations!🧸
Beth,
Just want to say I appreciate your thoughtfulness and sensitivity to life – and don’t just run with the usual. God is our only hope and strength in days like this. So thankful He’s in control. Blessings on your life journey and as you encourage those in your space – online and in your corner.
Thank you for this calming message.
Hi,
Please tell me where to buy the one shouldered white top you’re wearing in this blog? LOVE it!!
Great job by the way-
Tina
Thank you for your peaceful message. I have enjoyed reading your emails and love reading about your life, family and styling hints. As a Canadian watching, my heart goes out to the families that face an uncertain future. Sending prayers and moral support to you and your country.
