Color trends come and go in fashion and this year we have seen a few colors that have been trending for the past few years, including purple, yellow, and orange. Of course, you can wear whatever colors you like best and not be out of fashion, but it’s interesting to notice which colors tend to overwhelm the offerings at our favorite brands and retailers. So today we are looking at the 5 hottest spring and summer colors for 2024.

Purple has remained strong in fashion throughout the seasons for the last few years, with colors ranging from lilac, lavender, and orchid to deep eggplant, plum, and grape. It’s no wonder – because purples mix so well with their complementary and analogous colors. Want a strong contrast? Pair purple with its complementary color yellow, but you can also create a striking look when you pair purple with its analogous color, red. It may not seem like it at first, but purples are a lot more versatile than you might think.

We’ve seen yellow in one tone or another for every season the last few years, and spring/summer 2024 is no different. Think of daisies, Julia Child Roses, Daffodils and Forsythia. Though this season’s yellow is a more subtle butter yellow, the hue in all its tints, tones and shades (from sunflower to citron) are still easy to come by and on trend. If going bold in solid yellow isn’t for you, try it in a pattern, or your accessories.

Glacial Blue is really big this spring and summer, and rightly so, its icy tone evokes cooler temperatures and an easy breezy feeling of calm. Recently I featured a skirt and top ensemble as a wedding guest outfit. The cool tone of Glacial Blue is a perfect match for one of this season’s other big color trends: metallic silver. The combination is chic and easy to put together with metallic silver accessories. Another cool thing about this tone is that it’s easily replicated for more casual outfits with chambray and light blue.

The Pantone color of the year is “Peach Fuzz” so there is no shortage of orange in fashion this spring and summer. Think peach, cantaloupe, tangerine and coral. Whether you go for a bold tone or a more subdued peach tone, there is a very summertime feeling that comes with wearing this hue. It evokes sunsets and tropical flowers, maybe a fruity cocktail or my favorite Aperol Spritz. So, feel the St. Tropez, Amalfi Coast, or Mexican Riviera vibes with all kinds of orange this season!

Of course Stark White is a perfect color for spring and summer; it’s crisp and bright, light and refreshing. You can easily pair white denim, linen, chino, or oxford with any color. But to emphasize the Stark in the moniker, think of going monochromatic Stark White. It’s an easy-to-put-together statement look, especially if you accessorize with a metallic, or other saturated hue.

Hello Beth!
Thank you for the “color” inspiration. As I’ve gotten older (64) I find myself shying away from the brights. Once again, you have given me reason to be open-minded with these terrific outfits. Boring begone!!
Thanks, Beth!
My pleasure! Nothing brightens your mood more than a pop color!
