when summer rolls into town there’s bound to be a pool party or beach getaway in your future. and what better way to stay cool in july? but i know from experience that most women dread the fact of donning a swimming suit. what? and miss all that fun? jet-skiing, or snorkeling, or even sipping a pina colada while perched on a chaise lounge are activities not to be missed when the temps heat up. so even if the thought of finding that perfect swimsuit sends your heart into palpitations it’s time to get our swim game on. today’s ootd is all about poolside pizazz. first rule of thumb is a wide-brimmed hat to keep the sun off my face. and even though my youth was spent as a sun worshipper with layers of baby oil slathered on in pursuit of that perfect tan line. (uva/uvb sunscreen hit the market in 1980.) thank goodness these days i’ve exchanged the suntan oil for a strong spf, but a hat is my first line of defense. and what about a cover-up? to me, this is the most important item in my poolside gear. it allows me to traipse through a hotel lobby with ease on my way poolside and adds chic coverage when i’m not dipping my tootsies into the water. today, i’ve chosen the ever-so-versatile sarong that can be styled several ways. in today’s version, i simply have it tied around my neck. jelly flip-flops are the perfect protection against hot concrete but can stand up to the beating of a sandy beach. last but not least is my one-piece swimsuit which peeks out from beneath the sarong. now really, was donning a swimsuit all that painful? absolutely not, especially when those lazy-summer-day memories are waiting to be made by the pool, lake or beach. so go on, grab a suit and have some fun!

I aim for the fierce surfer look, even in a pool where I touch bottom everywhere. Long-sleeve rash guard plus swim shorts. No worries about the sun.
Your sarong looks great, though.
long=sleeve rash guards are a perfect summer choice!

Cute and inspiring : )
Hello Beth! I just recently discovered your blog and girl, am I happy! Finally a fashion blogger my age, my body type, my sense of style (most other bloggers over 50 I find too into a “glamour-type” look or still centred on office-wear). You’re a fearless example of someone enjoying life without worrying about hiding knees, sunspots, etc. AND I’ve spotted a few wintry fur-trimmed or parka & boots looks in your archives which this frozen winter “prairieland” girl appreciates. You look fabulous and you’ve got a new follower!
hi nan!
thanks for taking the time to drop a note. and, yes, life is meant to be lived flaws and all!
i hail from nebraska so there will always be a bit of prairieland in me.
