Yes, I’m Over 50—And Yes, I’m Wearing These 7 Trends in 2025

When you hear the word trends, your first thought might be: “Aren’t those just for the 20-somethings on TikTok?” But here’s the thing — Style at a Certain Age is all about intention. I don’t chase trends… but I do embrace the ones that elevate my wardrobe and keep things fresh. In 2025, it’s not about reinventing your style — it’s about refreshing it. And these seven trends do exactly that. Let’s dive into 7 Trends I’m Actually Wearing.

Trend 1. Relaxed Tailoring

This season, I’m swapping out stiff suiting for relaxed silhouettes:

Frank & Eileen Button Up | Frank & Eileen Chinos | Similar Zebra Slide Sandals

This look still reads polished, just with a little more ease and movement. Think linen blends from Frank & Eileen or Veronica Beard. Breezy, breathable, and entirely wearable.

Trend Style Tip

Pair with slim-fit jeans or chinos to balance the volume.

Trend 2. Pop of Pastel

Pastels are no longer just for Easter brunch. In 2025, sorbet shades are showing up everywhere — from soft lilacs to butter yellows to pale mint. My current favorite? A pink puff-sleeve polo top that brings just the right touch of feminine fun without veering into frilly.

J.Crew Factory Embroidered Trim Shell | Kallie Stretch Linen Blend Pant | Alternative Gold Slide Sandals | Similar Mar y Sol Tote

Trend Style Tip

Keep the silhouette clean and let the color do the talking.

Trend 3. Barrel Jeans

Say hello to the denim silhouette that’s surprisingly flattering — barrel jeans. If you’re a straight-leg loyalist, this shape might feel bold. But with the right styling, they create a beautifully modern line.

I love them with:

Madewell Darted Barrel Jean | White Tee | Alternative Light Pink Cardigan | Similar Hot Pink Shoulder Bag | Similar Block Heels

Tuck in your top to define the waist and balance the volume below.

Trend 4. Sheer Layers

Sheer blouses, chiffon overlays, and mesh tops are having a moment. But don’t worry — this isn’t about baring it all. It’s about layering thoughtfully. Try a sheer button-up over a tank or cami for softness and subtle sophistication.

Rib Cage High Waist Ankle Straight Jeans | Sheer Embellished Tee in Plaid | Ribbed Tank Top | Snake Print Block Heels | Similar Croc-Embossed Gold Bag

Style Tip

Ground sheer fabrics with tailored pants or jeans to avoid feeling too bare.

Trend 5. Statement Flats

The era of boring shoes is officially over. In 2025, it’s all about flats with flair:

They’re comfortable and chic — a win-win in my book.

Trend 6. Elevated Athleisure

Whether I’m running errands or heading to the dermatologist, I reach for coordinated athleisure sets that look intentional, not like I just rolled out of bed. Brands like Varley or Frank & Eileen’s Aspen set are the gold standard.

Cashmere Blue Crochet Top | Varley Highwaist Blue Shorts | Slip On Sneakers

Style Tip

Add gold hoops and a structured trench or denim jacket to instantly elevate your set.

Trend 7. Woven Accessories

Nothing says “spring and summer” quite like natural textures. I’m leaning into:

They’re breezy, warm-weather staples — and surprisingly versatile.

Closing Thoughts

Trends aren’t here to replace your wardrobe — they’re little style sprinkles that add freshness to your forever pieces. I always say: the most stylish women I know evolve with time. And that means saying yes to something new when it feels right.

Tell me in the comments — which trend are you embracing this year? And if you’re curious about how to style any of these looks, subscribe to my YouTube channel or explore my blog archives. Great style never expires.

I love linen! I wear it a lot in the Spring and Summer, and this year even more. I like the eyelet tops and wearing more button ups this year. Love the pastel colors for Spring but have to make sure I pick the right shades as can wash me out.

    1. You and me both—linen is truly the unsung hero of warm-weather style! 💛 I love hearing that you’re embracing eyelet and button-ups too—they’re such timeless, feminine pieces that add instant polish. And yes to pastels! They’re beautiful for spring, but you’re absolutely right: it’s all about finding your shade. Soft peach, warm blush, or a gentle sage might be just the thing if cooler tones tend to wash you out.

Thanks so much for sharing your style favorites—it’s always a joy to connect with women who love fashion with intention!

I only recently discovered the SAACA website and am hooked. Beth, you look amazing in every outfit I’ve seen in multiple posts! You appear so poised and confident – something I truly admire. I struggle to find a style that is ‘just me’ and your posts are inspiring. I’m 67, so dressing in retirement has been challenging- the balance of casual and confident without over, or under, doing it.

    1. Thank you so much for the kind words—and welcome to Style at a Certain Age! I’m thrilled you found us. Finding your personal style after the office wardrobe retires can feel like a second act without a script, but I promise: confidence is the best accessory, and comfort doesn’t have to mean giving up on style. I’m so glad the posts are speaking to you—stay tuned, we’ve got plenty more inspiration coming your way! And a new series in the making where I answer one readers question each month! xo

Just wanted to say, how happy I am to have found you! I’m 47/yrs old, and Mom of 3, Nana to 2 amazingly, AWESOME grandkiddos & as for my work life, I’m an HR Director/Office Manager. Whew, that’s a lot, right there! Since being in my 40′, (and more here lately – especially by my grown children), I’ve either been told, or overheard, that I don’t really “dress my age). It doesn’t feel very good to hear, yet sometimes I suppose it’s good to know, so that I can “Adjust” my wardrobe a bit (or a lot). I know that you cater to
