what’s the best part of fall? besides the leaves turning brilliant shades of orange, pumpkins (on the porch, pumpkin spice latte or pumpkin bread), and college football? for me, it’s the return of sweater weather. and let me tell you, Georgia has served up near-perfect temperatures the past week or so. the sun has shone overhead with low humidity and digits in the high sixties to low seventies. that’s when it’s time to reach for a sweater, any sweater. from crew necks to turtlenecks or a simple cardigan, there’s a sweater made just for you. my favorite sweater? that would be like asking me who my favorite child is – all of them!
but there are other fall clothing items i love as much as a comfy cozy sweater. boots or scarves rank high on my list. skirts too. and since i spent my youth contending with snow and slush, i’m still a sucker for a gorgeous winter coat. yep, it’s sweater weather, and i’m feeling good.
today’s ootd is easy peasy, and one of my favorite fall looks. it starts with a corduroy skirt from Talbots that comes in three colors. and y’all know i never met a stripe i didn’t like, so i reached for a lightweight cashmere turtleneck (old similar here, here and here). at least one pair of riding boots are always sitting in my closet. black is a good choice if you only have room for one pair. but try to sneak in brown too, you won’t be sorry. a good pair of boots last for years and years. riding boots look equally good with skirts or jeans. these black riding boots are several years old (similar here) from Talbots. but they trot out new editions each year with slight variations.

corduroy skirts are a fall favorite of mine. they remind me of my mother, who adored them. this wide wale skirt comes in shiraz, portobello, and olive night
when sweater weather really turns chilly, it’s time to add a third layer. Anthropologie is a go-to brand for the cutest coatigans. what’s a coatigan, you ask? it’s part coat and part cardigan, and it’s the perfect weight for fall. this coatigan is from last year. but there are similar ones here, here and here.
Julie Vos jewelry is a favorite brand of mine. it’s bold yet simple. the Calypso bracelet comes in blue, rose, and clear. my earrings (old similar here) are also from the Julie Vos Catalina collection.

Love this ootd. Love that you used one new piece (skirt) and everything else was already in your closet. This is real life dressing.
Love the skirt! Just ordered it as it will go with pieces already in my closet as did yours. It reminds me of a skirt I made back in the day when I had more time than money. I would find designer patterns and copy an outfit. The skirt was part of a Mary Quant suit in a royal blue wide wale corduroy. I loved that suit!
Love the look! Because I live in central Florida and cold clothing is seldom necessary, the Fall is the season for my new winter pieces!
It’s hot here in Tampa FL. Very seldom do we get to wear sweaters. Wish we did but our weather is not conducive to anything like sweaters not coats.
