how to wear black denim this fall

  1. Ann Steinmetz says:

I notice that you seem to roll up the cuffs on nearly every pair of jeans you wear, (even the denim jumpsuit) no matter the color or the fit. I like the look on the skinny black jeans, but wonder why you do it so often on others.

if you go through the archives you’ll see a mix between cuffed and uncuffed. but i cuff jeans to highlight shoes or hide a frayed hem or just because.

I come from the Sandra Dee generation. We wore a bandana around our neck and cuffed our pants. You look great Beth and I love the way you can switch from the big city look to a country look and look at ease in both.

style has lots of faces from comfy to glam. i like them all!

I LOVE the black jeans, black top and contrasting coat or jacket. In fact…this look is my uniform. I was not blessed with long legs or torso that you have Beth ( I’m barely 5’2″), but I realized that a monochromatic look underneath…especially black, gray or navy for me, with a contrasting jacket/sweater or vest, gives me the visual longer look that I desire. I still can rock so many colors with jackets etc. that I don’t feel that I am only wearing black.

    • Beth Djalali says:

a monochromatic outfit is perfect for everyone. so often i hear shorter women say they can’t wear this or that. honestly, it always goes back to proportions. if you pay attention to that you will be able to wear so many things you thought you couldn’t.

Welcome Back! Love today’s post. Looking forward to fall (and the layers) too!

  4. Heidi Danas says:

Having a lint roller on hand made me giggle. I think black is a wonderful back drop for our jewelry too!

You were missed!! But even the Queen needs a vacation. Loved this post as well as your video – you look stunning in all the outfits. I’m in the middle of fine tuning all my fall sweaters. A while ago I mistakenly tossed a 15 year old cashmere black crew neck sweater into the wash with a bunch of black tees. When I opened the washer I almost cringed when I saw what I did, but even though it was a good quality sweater it was old. Never fear – it turned out beautifully! I don’t recommend it, but so glad it worked.

    • Beth Djalali says:

there’s always that moment of dread when you think it’s ruined this time! so happy to hear your cashmere sweater made it through the wash with flying colors.

  6. Adrian says:

Dear Beth, lovely blog thank you, loved your little

  7. Kathleen Margoles says:

Are you able to wear heels after your knee replacement? I had bilateral TKR in Nov & don’t feel comfortable in high heels yet

  8. MaryLynne says:

To cuff or not. I’m glad you cuff your jeans just because. I have to if I don’t want to get out the sewing machine and shorten them. I even have to shorten petites which is a bother. I love black jeans especially in October and November I just ordered some new ones as those I have are too big. Yea!!

  9. Andrea says:

Oh Beth, the camel/black outfit made my heart go pitter pat💝. Camel is one of the most under utilized colours. It is devine with any dark blue or black. Camel accessories with dark blues/black is otherworldly in my opinion. The length of the coat is perfect.

  10. jackie says:

  11. Lisa says:

Great outfits. Love the black with the suede jacket. Love the videos. You put your heart and soul into your blog. Glad you are back.

  12. Lisa says:

Love the very first outfit with the suede jacket. Great video as usual. Glad your back!

  13. Jolanda says:

I like the outfit with that sweet looking pup. Perfect complement to the all black ;).

  14. jackie says:

Beth that dark column of colour with the camel/tan long coat is just lovely. So my cup of tea .

  15. Trace says:

You look so great, especially in the all- black look. I scrolled back through your recents posts & have a quick question.
What size were those fabulous casual cropped wide leg khakis you wore with that sweater?
I wd like go order them online but need a point of reference.
    Thanks much!
