The first week of September is upon us and it’s starting to look and feel a little like fall here in Athens. So it’s the perfect time to think about transition outfits. I still want to be comfortable with the warm temperatures, but shifts in color palettes and changing up your accessories to transition into Fall are both techniques I rely on.
By changing up your accessories, I mean exchanging summer sandals for boots, booties, loafers, ballet flats; adding a denim jacket or a blazer to your ensemble. Just by changing up accessories, we can get a little more mileage out of certain outfits that worked perfectly well in summer.

How to Use Accessories to Transition into Fall
1. Line Dots Flare Dress
(Ann Taylor)
Take this Petite Line Dots Flare Dress from Ann Taylor, for example. Its light fabric is wonderful for the warm temperatures, but by adding peep toe booties, it feels a little more like fall to me. In the summer I wore this dress with flat slide sandals, it works well as a transition dress.

These peep toe booties are old, but they are (and have been!) such a popular style for fall that there are a ton of great alternatives. I’ve listed several I have collected above.
I am looking forward to exchanging the peep toe booties for riding boots and adding a denim jacket when temperatures dip further.

2. Petite Dress Sizing
Ann Taylor does a great job with petite dress sizing. This dress falls right at my knees and the proportions are perfect. It has a gathered elastic waist that gives the bodice a blouson effect that is nicely accentuated with a belt.
A simple brown leather belt (similar belt, Gap) and my day-to-day Sydney Bag complete my outfit.

3. The Georgia Club
Alex and I are at the Georgia Club today. We will have a relaxed and quiet dinner enjoying the serene views. We come to the Club regularly for dinner; its relaxed atmosphere and good food are certainly top reasons; Beth and I often have work dinners here, where we share ideas, discuss plans for blog posts and future e-magazines.

Kelly, you look really great in your transition-to-fall outfits. You are such a classic beauty, and it’s nice to see you in petite clothes that are more assertive than pastels might be.
Just wondering, do you normally like to wear jewelry? I was thinking that younger women like you probably do not want as many accessories. I don’t think I did when I was younger. I’m not a true petite; although I’m shortwaisted, I have long legs, and I’ve always liked the regular designs and styles better than anything “cute.” You do it the way I woulld, clean lines and straightforward.
Hello Eva, Thank you so much for stopping by and saying hello! I do have an appreciation for jewelry, but I have never really worn it. xo Kelly
Very cute transition look, although personally I’m trying to avoid dressing in black. If only it came in navy!
Love the booties and I have a pair. You’ve inspired me to get them out. Very pretty coordinated look!
Hello Nancy, Thank you so much for stopping by. I am glad to have inspired you to break out those booties in your closet! I used to wear a lot more black than I do now, but it is such a classic, chic color that I always find myself returning to it, even if it’s less often. xo Kelly
Love this outfit , Kelly! I never would have thought of pairing a navy dress with brown accessories , but it works! So cute and effortless.
Hello Nancy! This dress is black, but I love to pair navy with brown. It’s a great combination! Thanks for stopping by! xo Kelly
You are adorable!
Thanks so much Rory!
The dress looks so cute on you. Love the look.
Thank you so much Pam!
I like vintage full slips with adjustable straps to wear under my summer dresses that add an extra layer if warmth so that I can wear my dresses into fall
Hello Carlette, What a great idea! I love vintage full length slips. They are so pretty even on their own. When I was a teenager, I used to wear them under sheer vintage dresses. Such a great look. Thanks for stopping by! xo Kelly
