Spring shoes are one of my favorite things to shop. There’s just something about a new pair of flats or a barely-there sandal that makes the whole season feel possible. But I’ve also learned — after many years and many pairs of shoes — that great spring footwear does not have to come with a designer price tag.

This week, I did the research so you don’t have to. I went category by category — mules, sandals, ballet flats, slingbacks, and loafers — and put the splurge-worthy originals side by side with their most convincing lookalikes. Some of these steals are genuinely shocking. And a few of the “reals” might surprise you too.

Read on to Shop Beth’s Cover Photo Look

01 | THE MULE LOAFER

The mule loafer has all the polish of a classic loafer with the ease of a slip-on — which means you can look put-together without any of the fuss. Pair it with jeans, trousers, a midi skirt — it works with everything. This is the shoe that earns its place in your closet every single season.

Gucci horsebit mule

The Real

Gucci Princetown Horsebit Mule — $820–$1,090 Signature horsebit hardware, buttery soft leather, iconic slip-on silhouette. One of the most recognizable shoes in fashion.

The Steal

Sam Edelman Linnie Bit Mule — ~$150 Genuine leather, gold-tone horsebit hardware, 18+ colorways and patterns, rubber sole, and thousands of glowing reviews.

Sam Edelman Mule

The Verdict: Multiple side-by-side comparisons online show these as nearly identical from a distance. The hardware is slightly different up close — but honestly? Most women say they wear the Sam Edelman version everywhere without a second thought, while the Gucci pair stays wrapped in tissue paper. That tells you everything.

02 | THE SANDAL

If there is one sandal that has quietly become the most coveted shoe in fashion over the last several years, it’s the Hermès Oran. Minimalist, flat, and effortlessly elegant, it has that rare quality of looking expensive without trying too hard. The good news is that the H-strap silhouette is so specific and so recognizable that the right dupe gets you 90% of the way there — for about 10% of the price.

Hermes slide sandal

The Real

Hermès Oran Flat Sandal — $840+ Box calfskin leather (the same used in Birkin bags), the iconic H-strap, handcrafted, available in 42 colors, and holds strong resale value.

The Steal

Steve Madden Hadyn Slide Sandal — ~$70 High-quality leather, near-identical H-shaped strap, padded footbed, and comes in cognac, black, white, and more. Reviewers consistently say no one can tell the difference.

steve madden slide sandal

The Verdict: The Steve Madden Hadyn is arguably the most famous shoe dupe in existence right now — and for good reason. The H-strap silhouette is nearly identical, the leather is quality, and the price is almost unbelievably good. If real leather at an even lower price point is your priority, the Quince H-strap slide comes in around $60 with five-star reviews. Either way, this is a very easy steal.

03 | THE BALLET FLAT

The ballet flat is having a major moment right now — specifically the high-vamp, glove-fit silhouette that showed up on the Spring 2026 runways at Toteme, Jil Sander, and Akris. The good news is you have real options at every price point. Here are two Toteme versions and their best steals.

toteme ballet flat in suede

The Real

Toteme Ballerina Flats — ~$450–$600 The defining silhouette of spring 2026 — a high-vamp, glove-like construction seen on runways at Toteme, Jil Sander, and Akris. Minimalist, modern, and everywhere right now.

The Steal

Madewell The Mylie Ballet Flat — $128 100% leather upper and lining, square toe, fitted glove design that nails the high-vamp silhouette, LWG-certified sustainable leather, and available in multiple colorways, including a handwoven version.

Mylie Ballet Flat in Suede

The Verdict: The Mylie checks every single box — real leather, the glove-fit high-vamp shape that defines the 2026 ballet flat trend, square toe, and a price that actually makes sense. You’ve already featured it in the spring shoes post, so your readers know and trust it. This is a confident steal.

Another Spring Ballet Real vs. Steal

There is something about a white leather ballet flat in spring that just feels right. Clean, fresh, and endlessly versatile, it brightens every outfit and works as a true neutral. This version of the trend leans sleeker and more polished — and Kelly’s pick for the steal happens to be one of the most comfortable shoes either of us has ever worn.

toteme white ballet flat

The Real

Toteme Slip Leather Ballerina Flat  (in White) — ~$510–$600 Toteme’s smooth white leather version — sleeker and more polished than the minimalist style, with that same high-vamp glove construction. White leather ballet flats feel fresh and intentional right now, and this pair is the one everyone is referencing.

The Steal

Everlane The Day Glove — ~$150 Kelly’s pick — and for good reason. This is one of the most genuinely comfortable flats on the market. Italian leather that molds to your foot, an extra-cushioned insole, a back pull tab, and side vents. It comes in a range of colors — black, tan, cream, white, pale pink, cocoa, birch green, and more — so there’s truly something for everyone. Sizing tip: go up a half size for the best fit.

Everlane day glove ballet flat

The Verdict: Kelly swears by these, and the reviews back her up completely. Women say they reach for them on repeat — for errands, travel, long days on their feet. The leather softens over time and molds to the shape of your foot, which is exactly what you want in a flat you’ll actually wear. This isn’t a compromise. It’s genuinely one of the most comfortable shoes you can buy at any price.

04 | THE SLINGBACK

Few shoes carry as much style history as the Chanel two-tone slingback. It has been worn by everyone from Jackie Kennedy to modern-day fashion editors, and it has never once looked dated. The cap toe, the block heel, the slingback strap — it is a formula that simply works. And right now, you can get very close to that formula for a fraction of the price.

The Real

Chanel Two-Tone Cap-Toe Slingback — $1,100–$1,175 The most iconic slingback in fashion history. Beige and black goatskin leather, a walkable block heel, and a silhouette that Coco Chanel introduced in 1957, and the world has never stopped wanting.

Chanel Slingback
Amazon slingback

The Steal

Eldof Two-Tone Slingback Block Heels – ~$60 (Amazon) The classic cap-toe two-tone look on a pointed toe with a low block heel. Clean lines, simple slingback strap, and that beige-and-black color combination that does all the heavy lifting. Available on Amazon and easy to find in your size.

The Verdict: At under $60, this is one of the most dramatic price differences on this entire list — and the look is unmistakably Chanel-inspired. The materials won’t match the real thing (nothing at this price point will), but styled with the right outfit? No one is doing the math. A pointed toe, a low block heel, and a two-tone cap — that’s all you need to pull this look off.

Beth’s Tip: This Songmont-Inspired Bag is another great Steal vs. Real. The original Songmont Song Medium Bag retails for $430, while the vegan leather version is available for $50.

05 | THE LOAFER

The classic horsebit loafer is one of those rare shoes that transcends every trend cycle. It looks sharp with wide-leg trousers, effortless with straight-leg jeans, and polished with a midi skirt. It is the kind of shoe you reach for without thinking — and then realize later that it made the whole outfit. We both own these in multiple colors, and we are not stopping anytime soon.

The Real

Gucci Jordaan Horsebit Loafer — $1,090 The gold standard of designer loafers. Soft buttery leather, iconic horsebit detail, almond toe, and virtually zero break-in time.

gucci loafer
Loraine Bit Loafer

The Steal

Sam Edelman Loraine Bit Loafer — $150 Genuine leather, gold horsebit detail, cushioned insole, 880+ reviews, nearly a five-star rating, true to size, and available in a wide range of colors and finishes.

The Verdict: Here’s the truth — both Kelly and I own these in multiple colors, and we reach for them constantly. They go with everything, they’re comfortable from the first wear, and they look far more expensive than they are. The horsebit detail is spot-on, the leather is quality, and nobody has ever looked at our feet and questioned the price tag.

Hey ladies, Kelly here… If I had a dollar for every time I wear a Loraine Bit Loafer, I’d probably be able to afford the Gucci Loafers. Alas, while this is not the case, I do manage to buy a new Loraine Bit Loafer every year because I love all of the fun patterns and materials Sam Edelman releases each year. To me, these are investment shoes that I love to collect! This season, my new addition is the Loraine Mesh Bit Loafer, which I am wearing in this week’s upcoming Fridays with Oscar post.

Recently, I wore the plaid version of the Loraine Bit Loafer (the pair I have is covered in sequins) But, this patent version is equally fantastic! If you follow the blog, you know I reach for these anytime I need a shoe that looks polished, adds a little panache and goes with literally anything in my fall, winter, and early spring closet – plus, this shiny plaid style is 61% off, retailing at $58 right now.

Closing Thoughts – Designer Shoe Dupes

Here’s my honest take after going through all five of these side by side: the steals have gotten really, really good. We’re not talking about cheap imitations that fall apart after one season. We’re talking about well-made shoes with quality leather, classic hardware, and timeless silhouettes — for a fraction of the designer price.

That said, sometimes the real is worth it. If you’ve always dreamed of the Hermès Oran sandal and you’ll wear them for the next ten years, that’s a legitimate investment. Luxury goods hold value — and they carry a feeling that a dupe simply can’t replicate.

But for most of us, most of the time? The steal is the smarter choice. Save the splurge for something that truly moves you — and put the rest toward next season’s shoes.
