good morning, good morning, good morning! spring has definitely sprung in the south with gorgeous temps all weekend long. and the sun has been shining overhead for the past week. i honestly cannot remember the last time that happened. this last winter was cold and dreary, to say the least. but old man winter is finally bowing out. and i’m closing the door behind him.
but today it’s all about what i wore shopping. saturday afternoon mr. style and i hopped in the car along with our youngest. it was time for suit shopping. ha! and you thought the shopping expedition was for me. no, saturday afternoon was all about christian and finding the perfect suit. mission accomplished as he came home with navy blue suit plus a coordinating double-breasted vest. a blue shirt and pink tie also found their way into his shopping cart. it’s all in preparation for his big brother’s wedding nuptials that is fast approaching. the first weekend in may to be exact.
since the weather was glorious, there was no need for a jacket. a third layer was added as the weather was warm, not hot. the addition of a cardigan (old, similar here) added some much-needed warmth and gave the white shirt a little pizazz. it’s all about a neutral color scheme today. notice the texture of the sweater. this is what adds that extra oomph to this casual ootd and personality. the cardigan is several years old by St. John. i know, i know it’s frustrating when a style blogger shops her closet. but that’s how i’ve thrown outfits together for years – the new with old. high end and low. it’s what keeps things interesting.
the white shirt is oversized with an on-trend high/low hem. this is a luxury brand shirt Layfayette 148, so the price point is high. white shirts are a staple in my closet and last and last. as a matter of fact, i’m always on the hunt for the perfect one. if it’s within your budget add one or two higher end shirts into your wardrobe.

the denim is from Talbots. it’s the girlfriend jean which gives a looser fit. the cap-toe ballet flats are from Banana Republic. and we all know how much i love ballet flats. whenever i’m in doubt as to what shoe to wear there’s a 90% chance, i’ll reach for a ballet flat.
a little bling goes a long way. bracelet, necklace, and earrings are gold. it contrasts nicely with the neutral color scheme.

Love, love, love the texture! I always try to add some texture, many times it’s my handbag or shoes. Of course being in Central Mississippi, it won’t be long before the texture we’ll have here is sweat! In the spring & summer, my white oversized shirt is a staple; you can dress it up & dress it down. Love your posts from a fellow Southern woman!!
great tips about your handbag and shoes! and, yes, the sweat factor will crop up sooner rather than later in the south. thanks so much for stopping by. xo
Exciting that Christian’s brother is getting married! You look great, and from the sound of it, he’s going to be stylin’ too.
we are sooo excited for the wedding. it’s a big year for the djalali clan. xo
I love texture too! Your outfit looks smart.
i always think of texture as a way to punch up an outfit. but in a subtle way. xo
Can you give us a sneak clue about your MOG outfit?
How I envy those ballet flats. I can’t wear them nor can I wear heals due to a bunion and hammer toes. Any suggestions?
Personally, I love that you shop from your closet. So do I and you are giving me all kinds of good ideas today. I tend to keep my jackets a very long time which is why I try to buy classic styles. Adding in something new, be it a shirt or jewelry or purse is my nod to current trends. Can’t wait to see what you wear to the upcoming wedding!
that’s the best part about classic style. some items last for years and years. i’ll try to put together a mother of the groom post and share a few of the dresses that are in the running. xo
Looks like a great casual but put together outfit. Spring is always a challenge for me, I want to break out all my warm weather clothes, but end up freezing. This looks like the perfect outfit to cover all the temperature bases.
transitioning from one season to another is the trickiest time of year. coat, no coat. boots, no boots. layers are always the way to go and if the temps warm up we can shed one item. xo
Please post about selecting Mother of the groom/bride dresses. It’s challenging to find something that is age appropriate and stylish. Everything looks too young or too old.
i will try to sneak in a post and share a few of the dresses that are in the running. xo
Hi Beth
I love that you have links to clothing and products shown in your blog. It is very helpful to me when searching for similar items and planning what to wear. I get many great new ideas and brands to try from you. Thank you. I am looking forward to seeing your wedding attire, too. I love your classic style with an edge and some whimsy.
thanks so much for stopping by joanie! it’s so good to hear you’re finding outfit inspiration. that’s what the blog is all about. xo
I’m with you on the texture, and it really does make a big difference in this outfit!
this is one of my favorite cardigans for that very reason. xo
I love your blog and your style. Recipes are amazing. I found today’s links disconcerting. Anyone who would pay $500 for a white shirt needs a serious attitude adjustment. I found this as a senior consumer very disconcerting. One should know better and do better at our age. $200 luxury brand still crazy but !!
everyone has a price point that works for their budget. and style can be translated into any price point. so feel free to spend what you feel comfortable with. and let others do the same. xo
Are you taking us along for your Mother of the Groom dress shopping??? I hope; I hope!!!
i’ll try to share a few of the dresses that made the final cut. xo
You have sported the Talbot’s girlfriend jeans several times, and today mention that they are a more relaxed fit. How do they compare to the boyfriend cut? I have a couple of pairs of boyfriend cut, and I do love them. They are comfortable, but I don’t want to miss out on something that might be MORE comfortable! Thanks.
the girlfriend jeans do not have the generous fit of boyrfriend jeans. but i think that’s why many of us like girlfriends. they have a looser fit than skinny jeans which sometimes feel like jeggings these days. but overall it’s still a slim fit. hope this helps. xo
Congratulations on 4 years of blogging! I’m looking forward to your mother of the groom outfit, too.
thanks so much, sandy! stay tuned to a MOG post. xo
Can’t wait to see your m.o.g. dress! I have a son getting married in December and need ideas!
it can be a daunting task to find the right dress. our son is having a destination wedding so a little more low key than many weddings. but i’ll share my finds with you. xo
