it’s stars and stripes week in honor of the fourth of july. and since we all love stripes i thought i would dig into my stripes arsenal and share a few of my favorites. we’re sprucing up the house this week too with stars and stripes pillows (don’t tell mr. style. he doesn’t quite understand my obsession with pillows) and setting the table for company.
first up is this gorgeous skirt and top from Lafayette 148. for those of you not familiar with this brand Lafayette 148 New York is a women’s fashion brand based in NYC but available in luxury retailers Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdale’s. the brand was created in 1996 and is now headquartered in the Brooklyn Navy Yard with their own workshop and production facility. it’s a rarity in the fashion world to find a brand that combines concept, design, and production under one roof. and i applaud them for that feat. it’s exciting to see a company invested in keeping things stateside.

since a young girl i’ve always looked forward to the fourth of july and sparklers! the fourth is a laid back holiday filled with hamburgers, potato salad, ice cream and of course a spectacular fireworks show.
the skirt and top are made from cotton. the skirt is lined. and i love, love, love, the midi length.
pockets, ladies, who can resist a skirt with pockets? this skirt has an A-line silhouette, side slit pockets and a high rise adjustable belt.
bing cherries are plentiful this time of year and soooo delicious. it’s an easy dessert to dish up to a crowd.
both the top and skirt are available at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. but the top and skirt are on sale at Neiman’s.

small touches like patriotic pillows set the holiday mood.
this ankle strap shoe is stylish and has a mid-heel height.
all right, gang, the countdown for the fourth is on! tomorrow is another day and another stripe. and another dessert. what are your plans for this coming holiday?

THIS DRESS LOOKS FABULOUS ON YOU!! This “true midi” length with the ankle heels looks great on you and creates a polished and chic look better than the pleated skirt and ankle strapped heals from one of your recent posts. Sexy lady for sure!! Love the look even though I’m not a stripe gal!
well, it’s been said that i never met a stripe i didn’t like. this outfit included.
Really nice outfit Beth. I love the A-line and length of the skirt.
A-line skirts are my favorite silhouette. and they look great on everyone.
Isn’t it great that we all have differences tastes! I understand the patriotic look, but much prefer you in shorter skirts, this tends to look too matronly in my opinion. You’ve got great legs Beth, show them off!
skirts are just like shoes, darla, lots of lengths and heights to choose from. personally? i love them all and love to mix it up. it’s the variety in life that keeps it interesting.
It is amazing that you always put together the correct outfit….and this is the first time I have disagreed with your choices…but I think this is TOO MUCH…the skirt is fabulous but with the same fabric top it looks too 1940’s farm girl….and I really don’t like the shoes you chose…just to frumpy all together.. Change it up using the skirt with different top and shoes….and let me see your choice…..
i think it’s safe to say this separates girl will get lot’s of mileage out of the skirt and top. but together? it makes one heck of an outfit. the design team at Lafayette 148 really know their stuff.
I disagree w/Amelia. Stripes are in this season. Many times I will be a few years ahead of a trend, BUT many years I see a current trend and think “ugh – why is this on trend this year”, BUT a year down the road and it has grown on me. Beth, you are not afraid of trends and I like this look, even though as I said earlier, I’m not a stripe girl (at least for now). I will agree, you got great legs that this 61 year old would love to have, but I also like to change it up!
Pretty stripes! And how they lengthen the look! I like that you can use each piece separately, too. Happy 4th almost. We just picked up a big bag of bing cherries, too. I love them–they epitomize summer for me…well, with watermelon, too. And peaches…and…
all the good fruits of the season – watermelon, peaches, and bing cherries! just love everything about summer.
Love the outfit and the decorations. My husband doesn’t understand my love of decorating for holidays. Also always look forward to your recipes on Friday.
I really believe you look so good in everything.
Phyllis
isn’t it fun to exchange recipes? fridays are my favorite day in so many ways.
PS – I love the Fridays with Oscar too! I love the recipes and especially the table scapes!!! Happy 4th Beth and to all your followers!!
Love this look. The dress, the colour and fit are perfect. Shoes awesome for height with the longer skirt. You look so polished. ❤️
Wow!! I love this outfit on you; makes you look so thin! I thought it was a dress at first…I think it’s a perfect look for summer and I’ll bet it’s cool too. Love the holiday decorations and am happy to see other women share my love for them as well. Again I have to say, this outfit ranks five stars (and stripes). Happy 4th of July everyone! Blessings to all!
I LOVE the outfit…..But the prices, YIKES! So, my mission will be to duplicate (or at least come close) the outfit at a price point I can afford. I’ve done this many times with your OOTD choices and it has become a fun and interesting journey! Thank you for all of your posts, recipes and decorating ideas. I enjoy your blog so much and look forward to it every single day.
Celebrating Canada Day today and the red stripes are a good fit for our celebration, too. I love the diagonal stripes on the sides of the skirt, contrasting the vertical stripes in the centre! Very flattering! Happy Independence Day!
Beth you look fabulous! I don’t think I could pull this off, but looks great on you! I love Lafette , lovely quality! Happy 4th to you and your family!
Love your blog!
Love stripes, love separates – a total win/win! AND a midi skirt- not dowdy at all. Looks chic.
Thanks for the cherry idea for the red in a dessert for the holiday! Yum!
WWI Candy Striper came to mind when I saw this. Too frumpy and I usually love your outfits.
Love the blue nail polish!
Love your look. I agree, purchasing separates allows so many options going forward with your wardrobe. The quality shows with this skirt and blouse. We are enjoying an Alaska cruise. A great way to celebrate the American experience with guests and crew on board from all over the world.
