with the official kick-off to summer only days away, many of us will be hitting the road to celebrate memorial day with friends and family. if you’re wondering what to pack, do i have an outfit for you! just last night, i returned from a weekend spent in savannah – the oldest city in georgia, established in 1733. my husband and i zipped over to this charming town to celebrate his birthday. saturday was spent roaming the cobblestone streets, and gawking at one historical building after another. our day started early by the river on a street dotted with unique pubs, shops, and hotels. we then headed toward town, strolling leisurely up and down the city streets. can you believe savannah boasts 22 park squares? each was a lovely respite from the scorching sun. verdant green trees lined the perimeter and offered an abundance of shade. when the temps began to soar a cold drink sounded mighty good so we dropped into the public kitchen and bar to dodge the heat and grab a bite to eat. after a cold beer and burger it was back to business, enjoying the variety of architectural styles savannah has to offer from greek revival, to federal style, and a smattering of italiante and georgian. it was simply a feast for these blue eyes. here’s a fun fact – savannah’s historic district is one of the largest in the u.s.! since i knew we would be meandering up and down one city block after another, i needed an ootd that would keep me looking stylish yet super comfy. shorts are always a perfect choice once summer rolls around, but it’s fun to dress them up a smidge with a blazer. i couldn’t resist a little print mixing, so i paired a striped tee with these marigold & zinnia shorts for a little pizazz. but what about this gingham bucket hat?! it’s not only adorable but perfect for keeping the noonday sun off my face – a must these days. a pair of sneakers help me log in those tourist miles. and last but not least, the cutest darn handbag that sports faux bamboo handles. all-in-all our day in savannah was thoroughly enjoyable for this history buff and her main squeeze. what a delightful city.
