did you think we would drive 200 miles and miss a day at the beach? if i’m this close to water, rest assured i’ll pay a visit. there’s something so soothing about the sound of waves crashing to shore. or a walk with sand between your toes. having lived on an island for five years these two simple pleasures were daily treats. while i am a city girl at heart (museums, city cafes, street life), there is something to be said about a day at the beach. it’s relaxing, rejuvenating, and restful. just what the soul needs from time to time to recharge the batteries. but a beach outing calls for an outfit with a little special something. linen is a perfect fabric for such an occasion – its natural fibers are cool and fresh on a hot summer day. and a straw hat is a must to block the blazing noonday sun. i particularly like this hat as the brim has a bendable wire and is well ventilated. birkenstock sandals can take a beating from both the sand and water – they’re indestructible but still have that cool vibe. i know this metallic pair will serve me well all summer long. but i couldn’t forget to bring along a straw hobo bag – it’s roomy enough to carry my sunscreen and sunglasses plus a few other essentials like bottled water. all-in-all my husband and i had a thoroughly enjoyable birthday bash this past weekend. after all, you only turn 64 once! i’m already plotting my birthday getaway come this august. any suggestions?
