a week or two ago, i wrote about the classic herringbone blazer and how versatile it is. the first time around, i wore it with a gray turtleneck, white denim, and a pair of snazzy sneakers. read the entire post. this week i’m still keeping it casual with the classic herringbone blazer worn as a jacket over a hoodie and black denim. it’s a casual chic ootd that’s perfect for a backyard get together.
even though the days are getting shorter one by one, there’s still time to linger outdoors while the sun fades in the west. this is the time of year i love to lounge on the patio, crank up the firepit, and sip a glass of cabernet. there’s nothing better than cooler temps and a roaring fire. so let’s make hay while the sun’s still shining. but even when it disappears, we can linger by the burning embers and savor the night. there’s something magical about a crisp fall night.
y’all know i love the classics. and blazers always make my classic must-have list. while a black blazer always gets top billing (it’s so darn versatile and goes with everything), a classic herringbone blazer comes in a close second. this little number is just as versatile as the mighty black blazer in that it goes with everything. the only downside is that a herringbone blazer is limited to fall and winter due to the material.
as i mentioned, today is all about casual ease with a black denim pair from Everlane that fits TTS. how cute is this neutral pullover hoodie (old, similar here) and black jean combo? it only gets better after the classic herringbone blazer is added to the mix. instead of reaching for black booties, i decided brown suede booties from Frye (old, similar here and here) would add texture to this oh so comfy but chic outfit.

there are always questions about the patio chairs (old, similar here and here) purchased from Wayfair and firepit (old, similar here) from Home Depot, and even the cantilever umbrella with LED lights. hence, we shared links for similar items. the stemless wine glasses are from Pottery Barn, and i love love, love the oversized silhouette.

Oh Beth, I hesitated last week on the herringbone blazer from J Crew and now my size is out of stock 🙁
Do you think items ever get restocked?
hi lynne! J.Crew is pretty good about restocking their classic items. Keeping checking.
Oooh! My kind of outfit. You look fabulous, head to toe. So appreciate how you help us find outfits from our own closets! I love classics, too. Beth, you cannot possibly imagine how much you inspire and energize many of us out here. Thank you again!~
Pinned this! Not sure how I feel about the boots with the pants you choose but I love the outfit and I love the boots! Thanks for being a continual source of inspiration Beth!
hi shelley! lots of footwear choices but i do love brown and black together. and i love these suede booties so try
to trot the out every chance i get.
Love how you put things together that I wouldn’t think of. You are an inspiration! Don’t forget spring as a time to wear a herringbone blazer. I have a lavender one from Pendleton (don’t know if they still sell clothes) that I love to wear in the spring when it is still cold but I’m tired of winter clothes
I love this look. My favorite blazer is a burgundy and light rose tweed from Talbots last year. I wear it all the time with both light and dark denim, even white. I dress it up with tailored slacks. It works with so !ugh I’m my wardrobe and I feel it kicks casual up a notch.
I love this combo with the hoodie under the blazer. I’m not sure I would have thought of it, but it’s great!
Perfectly modern way to style a herringbone! Would look great with a black turtleneck too. I always think of blazers as jackets. Those who think blazers are too corporate or ‘old’ looking should rethink it. The young royals max them out – casual chic.
This outfit is so cozy, yet chic. You look adorable, as always. The fire pit is absolutely charming. I’m thinking about it for our deck here in NJ. Always love your posts. You are always a joyful vision to behold.
I ordered the herringbone blazer from J.Crew. I love it! It came today. I can’t wait to start pairing it with things.
i’m so happy to hear you love the blazer, pat! it’s so versatile and i know you will wear it for years and years. it’s a classic!
