Today we are all about the shoes! The 2024 shoe trends are veering toward elegance, and while that’s never a bad thing, this era of refinement has a practical component, comfort. Ballet flats, sneakers, loafers, kitten heels, and square-toe shoes all equate to comfort, and this year those styles boast metallic leather, embellishments, and styles that work for day and night, meaning we have options that work for all of us – no matter our personal style. So today we are deep-diving into 10 shoe trends for 2024.

One of my 4 Bs (Blazer, Blue Jeans, Button-Down, and Ballet Flats), ballet flats are one of the hardest working shoes in your closet. They can go with virtually anything. Dress up a pair of jeans, and wear them with dresses and skirts. They also go great with sharp shorts in the summertime. If you don’t wear heels anymore, ballet flats are great for more formal occasions too, wear them in metallic, patent leather, or with chic embellishments for a more formal look.
While stacked sneakers are still in vogue, the trend this year is slimmer styles that have a retro look, like the Gola Badminton Sneakers, or Adidas Samba Sneakers. These slimmer styles look chic under skirts and dresses, wide-leg tailored trousers, and cigarette pants.
Much like cap toes and slingbacks, kitten heels have been on everyone’s radar this year. This makes sense since they are so wearable and add chic sophistication to any outfit. They’re also perfect for when you can’t, or don’t want to wear a tall heel, but still want to have a dressy look. Slingback styles seem to be the most popular kitten heel variety. Another popular variety this year are kitten heel boots.
T-strap loafers are a great transitional footwear option. When the temps dip, you can wear them with socks for a collegiate look, which is one of the big style trends this year. But T-Strap Shoes come in all kinds of styles, and this year, the T-Strap is a big trend no matter which style you go for. Heels, Loafers, and Mary Janes are all showing up with T-Straps!
And here is a great budget versus splurge: the Tory Burch Violet T-Strap Flat which sells for $398; and the Dwarves Square Toe T-Strap Mary Janes, which sells for $130. I am not sure which one is the dupe though, since Tory Burch has many dupes of even higher-end brand designs. Suffice it to say, the Dwarves version is just as chic and perfect for 2024!
Lug sole and stacked loafers are still trending this year and one of the best-quality styles with a reasonable price tag is the Corinne Lugsole Loafers from Madewell. So versatile, comfortable, and easy to wear, lug sole loafers look great with skirts, pants, and dresses alike.
The Linnie Bit Mules from Sam Edelman are a big favorite of ours because they are chic and sophisticated, comfortable and they come in so many great prints and materials. The $140 price tag is well worth it with the Linnie Bit Mules because of their comfort and quality, but if you’re looking for a dupe, try the Slip-On Mules from J.Crew Factory.
Comfortable, cozy shoes are a must for fall and winter, and perhaps fewer shoes achieve this better than clogs. Boho chic styles are trending this year, but the classic Birkenstock or Dansko Clogs are timeless.
Cap toe shoes have been trending since spring, and most of those same styles, be it ballet flats or heels, are still just as wearable in this shoulder season. Many of the styles we see are two neutrals, or the cap is a contrasting color or material. The most subtle styles are all one color and the cap toe is a different finish, like patent leather, or they’re all one color and the cap itself is one of the details, like the Vionic Klara Cap Toe Flats.
While elegance may be a big style trend of 2024, that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort. Square toe shoes of varying degree are having a moment this year and there are so many chic styles that are perfect for day or night.
Suede boots have never been out of fashion, but this year with the return of boho styles like flowy shirts and skirts and the re-emergence of English countryside fashion, suede boots are top of mind for mixing into our fall and winter wardrobes.
