The holidays are in full swing ladies! Although this is such a joyful time of year, it can also wear us out and be completely overwhelming - am I right or am I right?! Haha!! Tired eyes are a dead giveaway to a late night. L’Oreal Revitalift HA + Caffeine Eye Serum, $27 is going to be your version of Santa’s little helper - it’s your eye elf!! You can immediately revitalize those upper and lower lids with the unique triple roller applicator’s three cooling stainless steel balls for a full eye contour massage that depuffs! Store it in your fridge for an extra cooling sensation. It’s a game changer before any makeup is applied because of its caffeine and hyaluronic acid – a powerful duo.
Go a step further with your skin before you apply makeup by adding a lightweight facial priming moisturizer like the YSL Glow In Balm, $39. This balm is infused with light-reflecting pearls and illuminating rose extract to leave skin looking nourished and plump, like Santa’s belly.
Don’t underestimate how much a quick fill-in of sparse sad brows can do for the face. The fuller a brow, the more youthful the look, it’s a fact. You don’t see 12-year-old girls walking around with pencil-thin brows, do you?? Grab a brow pomade, Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow, $21, and an angled brow brush, $15, to fill in bare spots within the brows. And bam! The framework to your face is a great start to waking up a sleepy face!
If you want to always look like you took a “cold winter's nap”, then you best have a good concealer + foundation! Start by evening out redness and discoloration with, you guessed it, my go-to It Cosmetics CC Nude Glow Cream, $47. It’s a miracle product that can look undetectable while color-correcting all of those issues at the same time plus an added glow! (I’m wearing light medium here)
Not only is concealer important, but it’s also a MUST. Placement is key as well. Swipe a product like the YSL Touche Éclat High Cover radiant concealer, $40, (I’m wearing shade 2) in the following spots for mature faces:
Just as Santa was described in “Twas The Night Before Christmas” as having “twinkling eyes” and “merry dimples”, so we want the same vision for ourselves. There’s nothing merry about a blank-colored canvas…
Eyes. Starting with eyes, grab a warmer-toned neutrals palette as opposed to cool ones that can appear too ashy and dull next to the eyes. I’m using the Patrick Ta Major Dimensions II palette, $70. Apply a light peachy shade along the lower half of the eyelid, then run a slightly darker warm-toned shadow a bit above your natural crease in an upside-down crescent moon fashion.
Having a warmer shade along the middle upper half of the eye draws our eye upwards and gives it some life! (I popped just a touch of one of the rose shimmers into the center of my lid for a bit more fun)
These three steps require minimal effort but with maximum wide-awake results!
And then before two coats of Amazon’s popular clump-free mascara, $13, use an eyelash curler, please!! Of course, the gold Shiseido one is a must. Lash curlers are the push-up bra for the eyes.
This is a non-negotiable. Those dimples will look merrier with a little blush applied to them. The ease of a cream blush like the Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream blush, $22, in shade “nearly mauve” will melt into the skin to give a realistic warm flush to the face.
Again, stick with the warmer side of the spectrum with blush just like the shadows to give a healthier-looking complexion. Apply it on the highest points of the cheekbones and a bit into the center bridge of the nose to pull it all together and make it look like you took a sleigh ride through the wind and snow! I prefer the magic wand that is the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch blush brush, $23, for applying any, and all cream blushes.
Lip oils are all the rage right now and for good reason! They’re a great balance between a lip balm and a gloss - which makes them the perfect lip choice during this dry winter season. Make sure to choose one that hydrates though and look for ingredients like squalane, hyaluronic acid, or shea butter.
I’m a big fan of the affordable NYX Fat Lip Oils, $9, because they contain squalane which is a wonderful saturated oil that contains antioxidant properties – and these reflect light so beautifully! I’ve already bought 4 shades! Choose a more colorful shade to help distract from tired eyes too 🙂 I’m wearing shade “missed call” here - such a healthy shade of pink.
Also if you wear reading glasses like I do - implementing all of these tips will help your face come alive, despite the lenses!
And lastly, wearing clothing that has COLOR to it can certainly make one appear less tired overall. I know we love our basic black, gray, and whites, but they don’t do much to liven up our faces like color can. I mean you never see cute Mrs. Clause wearing all black, right?? Red is her signature color! I’m wearing this Free People purple shacket that is super comfy.
