Ever feel like you’re seeing the same ole beauty products go viral on repeat? The same serums, the same concealers, the same lip oils everyone swears will “be life changing!”?
I mean, I can admit a small amount of guilt for sharing these types of things with you ladies here from time to time! But I do it because I want you to hear about those “viral” products from a 47-year-old, and not a 24-year-old! Because, well, we are different, and those perspectives should be heard in the beauty space.

Now don’t get me wrong—some viral products earn their hype. However, there’s a whole world of hidden gems out there quietly outperforming the ones that flood your feed.
All I really want from my beauty products in the end is for them to help me not look as tired as I feel, give me dewy, youthful-looking skin, and not put a spotlight on the things I don’t love right now! Is that TOO much to ask?? Ha ha ha!!

So in this post, I’m sharing 8 highly underrated beauty products that deserve their moment in the ring light. These are the unsung heroes—smart formulas, skin-loving finds, and makeup must-haves that actually deliver without needing a trending sound to prove it.

Highly Underrated Beauty Products – Prep
- Naturium BHA liquid exfoliant 2%, $15. This is a must have step to use right before you apply your makeup. Why should you? Because it’s a leave-on exfoliant, that is gentle, and is proven to reduce the appearance of pores, and smooth and even skin tone, which reveals more radiant looking skin! And it’s super affordable (it’s a dupe for the Paula’s Choice BHA everyone loves). Apply it with a cotton round all over the face right before applying your moisturizer and watch how good your makeup will look on that smoother skin.

2. Paula’s Choice Pro Collagen Peptide Plumping Moisturizer, $49. This gel-to-cream is a magic maker moisturizer for us dry, mature skin gals. It claims to “plump and restore bounce,” and I can attest to it. This is one of those moisturizers I genuinely look forward to applying because it works so well…is that weird?? But seriously, apply this and watch how good your skin will look and feel.

3. Colleen Rothschild Illuminating Tinted eye cream, $48. So I have mentioned this eye cream before here on SAACA in my best concealer tips post, but I think it deserves another mention. Just the tiniest amount patted right onto the under eyes before you do your foundation or concealer is such a game-changing illuminator! Tired eyes are gone! I don’t know why more people don’t hype up this product. It’s truly incredible.

4. Maybelline Super Stay Lumi Matte foundation, $15. It’s a drugstore foundation that I reach for over my $50+ foundations pretty much every time. I don’t know how they did it, but they formulated a foundation that turns out beautifully soft matte but without looking dry. And this might seem silly, but I really enjoy the pump top because I don’t like having to tip over a glass bottle to get the product out, which is the case for a lot of my higher-end foundations. And the coverage is spectacular and just the happy medium of medium to full coverage.
5. Pixi Beauty On the Glow tinted moisture blush sticks, $18. I own every single color of these sticks – even one of the highlighters and bronzer sticks. Again, I like the convenient packaging and the way I can grab the stick and apply directly to my face with ease. These are just what they say – tinted moisture sticks – so if you’re oily, this probably won’t be the blush product for you. But with my dry skin, I love how this melts right into my face and looks so luminous! Wearing shades : Ruby and Juicy mixed together here.

6. Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Sculpt lengthening and volumizing mascara, $26. This is a recent mascara I’ve fallen in love with because every time I wear it, my daughter compliments me on how long and fluffy my lashes look! And we all know, teenagers don’t just hand out compliments!! I agree, though, I think it’s partly because of the wand shape that lends this product to disperse the formula so well amongst each lash hair. I’m a big fan and have never heard anyone mention it!

Underrated Beauty – Finishing Touches

7. Wet Brush Go Green Tea Tree Shine brush, $19. Is it weird to talk about hair brushes? I mean, most of us probably use one multiple times a day, so it’s a necessary beauty product! This one does an amazing job at not tangling my long hair, and easily smoothes it out comfortably with its synthetic boar bristles, which also helps make it look shinier. A nice brush is a really good investment, too.
8. Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Luminizer + Plumper gloss, shade “Hot Cherry”, $26. There is something about a sheer red gloss that works on EVERYone. Trust me, I can use a sheer red-tinted gloss like this one on any skintone – fair to dark skin, and it creates a soft, healthy lip tint. I like this Fenty one because of the plumping aspect and how darn shiny it is! But in general, I don’t feel like people talk enough about what a red-tinted gloss can do for a face, and it’s actually super wearable. If you want a drugstore version, give this Maybelline lifter gloss in shade “sweetheart”, $9, a try!

And I must give some love also to this Maeve mock neck sweater, $98, that comes in 18 different prints and solids! This is the perfect fall sweater and so soft. Grab one for yourself in a fun print like my floral one to welcome in this new season. I’m wearing a size small. And you can check out this post on 4 ways to switch up your makeup for fall to go with your new sweater.
