i was a teenager during the decade of the seventies. i still vividly remember my mother purchasing a red maxi coat with a black velvet collar and black buttons. she wore black vinyl boots underneath. and when the midi skirt made an appearance after years of the mini my highschool immediately embraced the trend. suede was everywhere: from vests to skirt to handbags. frye boots were the pair to sport during winter months. and from the moment carly simon donned her floppy hat it was copied by every teenage girl from coast-to-coast. i won’t even broach the subject of television with its numerous variety shows highlighting talented musicians or poking fun at society with their campy skits. amazing movies like the Godfather franchise, or music that ran the gamut from james taylor to led zeppelin. so humor me today as i step into a pair of knee-high suede boots, grab my floppy hat and channel my inner seventies. isn’t it great that from time-to-time fashion can just be darn fun? i’m feelin kind of groovy today a.k.a. carly simon. any iconic fashion divas on your list?
