Happy Friday, gang! With winter temperatures back again this week, we are hunkering down with a delicious comfort dish, Marry Me Shrimp Pasta, and a fancy tropical cocktail we are calling The Fancy in honor of the lovely Florida blogger, @thefancyashley, whom I had the pleasure of working with when we were in 30A a couple of weeks ago. And of course, since it’s Friday, we are going for easy casual outfits – it’s a Casual Yet Fancy Fridays with Oscar. Let’s celebrate the weekend!
Beth’s Casual Yet Fancy Outfit
Banana Republic Lightweight Cashmere Sweater | Spanx Jersey White Tee | Madewell Charcoal Denim | Felicia Ballet Flat | Lagos Monogram Necklace | Lagos Caviar Watchband
This Lightweight Cashmere Sweater from Banana Republic is the perfect sweater for the end of winter as we head into spring. It’s lightweight, so it’s ideal for layering on chilly days and works beautifully as a single layer on an early spring day. The lavender heather color feels like spring, even if the weather isn’t behaving! Easy, Charcoal Denim from Madewell is a simple and casual choice for Friday and the weekend ahead.
To add a feminine touch and a little shine to my Casual Yet Fancy Outfit, I am pairing metallic silver ballet flats with my jeans and sweater. My pair is old, but a virtually identical version can be found at Sam Edelman, with the Felicia Ballet Flat.

High-Rise Slim Fit Corduroys | Similar Short Sleeve Sweater | Birkenstock Shearling Boston Clog
The only thing fancy about my casual outfit is when I am holding The Fancy cocktail! LOL. I am keeping my outfit incredibly casual – and cozy today with Banana Republic Factory’s version of my old pair of High-Rise Slim Fit Corduroys from Gap. I love the chestnut brown color of these cords because they go with so many items in my closet. Today I went with one of my favorite cold-weather color combos – brown and grey. My sweater is from last year’s Nordstrom Anniversary sale, it’s by Vince. But you can find a Similar Short Sleeve Sweater from Quince.
Do you have a pair of Birkenstock Shearling Boston Clogs? I practically live in these shoes all fall and winter. If you don’t yet have a pair, I highly recommend you invest in them. They’re comfortable, and cozy, and will last for years.

You can check out her blog The House of Fancy Blog and follow her on Instagram (@thefancyashley) for style inspiration. She discovered a cocktail very similar to the one we adapted below while she was in Mexico and she shared it with us. For a Casual Yet Fancy taste of tropical sunshine, definitely make yourself this cocktail!

Marry Me Shrimp Pasta
Marry Me Shrimp Pasta falls into that category of delicious comfort food known as “Marry Me…” The pun here is that when you love someone and want them to accept your marriage proposal, you make them this dish and they are all but guaranteed to accept! I have adapted this recipe to nix the heavy cream because A) I can’t tolerate cream-based dishes, and B) it really doesn’t need it! It’s creamy and sumptuous in its sauce of cheese and pasta water. (Save the calories for the cocktail!)
Marry Me Shrimp Pasta
Ingredients:
- 12 oz. rigatoni
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 pound shrimp – peeled and deveined
- 1 tsp salt – divided
- 1 tsp black pepper – divided
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp sweet paprika
- 4 garlic cloves – minced
- 3 ½ ounces chopped sun-dried tomatoes – drained
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp flour
- ¾ cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ¼ cup chopped basil leaves
- ½ cup grated Parmesan
- chili flakes – for serving
Instructions:
- In a bowl, combine shrimp with paprika, garlic powder, ½ teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon pepper. Set aside.
- Mince the garlic, grate the Parmesan, chop the sun-dried tomatoes, and chop the basil leaves.
- Boil the rigatoni al dente in salted water, according to the package directions. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta cooking water, then drain.
- In the meantime, heat oil and butter over medium-high in a large skillet. Place shrimp in a single layer, and sear for 1 minute per side. Remove from the skillet into a clean bowl.
- Add garlic, and sauté for 1 minute over medium-low. Then add the sun-dried tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and the remaining salt and pepper. Cook for 1 minute more. Add flour, and stir until incorporated. Deglaze with chicken broth, and simmer for 2 minutes while scraping up the brown bits on the bottom of your skillet with a wooden spoon.
- Stir in tomato paste, and bring to a boil. Add the pasta to the pan and toss until the pasta finishes cooking about 2 minutes. Next, add lemon juice and basil. Finally, stir in Parmesan.
- Toss pasta with shrimp. Finish off with chili flakes.

Here’s to a Casual Yet Fancy Friday, Cheers!
Oscar, Ollie, Kelly, and I wish you all a warm and cozy weekend!
The recipe sounds so good! Can you just use a canned chopped tomato with garlic, basil, and oregano in it instead of the sundried chopped tomatoes? thanks
Hi Sherry, Yes you sure can. The only thing you’ll have to account for is the added liquid from the canned tomatoes. I would drain them really well and then you might need to add a little more flour to keep the sauce from being too watery. I hope you give it a try and let me know how it goes! xo Kelly
I just love seeing Oscar and Ollie. They sure like to pose for pictures. Love your blog.
I just love Kelly’s recipes including this one “Marry Me Shrimp Pasta”. She has such a natural talent and it is easy to follow her instructions. I’m sure her husband just loves her cooking and saves my day!
Thank you so much, Judy! It means a lot to me to know that you find my recipes easy to follow – writing a recipe isn’t as easy as it might seem! LOL. And yes, Alex does indeed love my cooking, thank goodness! He has even picked up quite a few tricks himself! Thank you for stopping by, xo Kelly
