Happy Friday, gang! And Welcome December! Okay, I know I sound just like my mom, but honestly, where did 2023 disappear? Wasn’t it just July and Kelly, Chelsea, and I were headed to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale? Just like that, it’s December, and the holiday season is in full swing. My house is trimmed (except the tree…) in holiday decorations. I’ll share those with you next week. My gifts have (mostly) been purchased, although not wrapped, and my Christmas menu never varies, so that’s easy peasy. I actually suggested I switch the menu up this year and was met with a resounding NO. Hey, if it ain't broke, right?! I like tradition, too, which is why I dish up the same Christmas Eve and Christmas morning recipes year after year. And I have my Mother of the Groom dress picked out for the NYE wedding. So I guess you’d say I’m in good shape for the holidays. Phew, as a Mediterranean cruise came up out of nowhere and I couldn’t resist adding it to my calendar. Stay tuned as the week of December 17th, we’ll cruise into a week-long travel series that will share my wardrobe and itinerary.
But it’s Friday, so time to kick off the weekend with Kelly and Oscar! We’re dishing up a Ginger Rogers Cocktail and a yummy Butternut and Proscuitto Flatbread. Who can resist a cozy sweater this time of year when the weather outside might be frightful? It’s been chilly in Georgia the past week, so I slipped into the scalloped yoke sweater with a splash of pink and a whole lot of navy. My kind of color combo! These navy corduroy pants have been on style repeat all season long, and they look fantastic with the sweater and a pair of block heels (old, similar here, here, and here) from Frances Valentine. I love a casual chic outfit, and you can always count on yours truly slipping into something casual on Friday without sacrificing style.

I have already gotten so much wear out of this Ruby Boatneck Sweater that I scored during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It's a great neutral sweater in a perfect weight for our mild winters here in Athens.

This is a great cocktail for fall! It has that spice from the fresh ginger so it's warming, the grapefruit gives it a little sweetness and the topper of club soda lightens it all up.
Makes 2 Cocktails
1/2 cup Gin
4 tbsp. Grapefruit Juice
4 tbsp. Lime Juice
4 tbsp. Simple Syrup
2 tsp. Grated Fresh Ginger
1/2 cup Club Soda, to top
Grapefruit Wedge, for garnish
Shake all but the club soda and grapefruit wedge in an ice-filled cocktail shaker until very cold. Strain into ice-filled rock glasses. Top with club soda and garnish with the grapefruit wedge.
This is a very easy flatbread with a wonderful mix of sweet and savory flavors. The roasted butternut is a perfect match for the savoriness of prosciutto and the richness of ricotta.
~8 oz. Roasted Butternut Squash (I used a bag of diced, frozen butternut)
Kosher Salt
Black Pepper
Fresh or Dried Thyme
1 Prepared Pizza Dough
1 cup Grated Mozzarella Cheese
1/4 cup Grated Pecorino Cheese
1/2 -3/4 cup Ricotta Cheese
4 oz. Prosciutto
Preheat oven to 400º F. Roast the butternut seasoned with a pinch of kosher salt, black pepper, and thyme, until the butternut begins to brown on the edges, about 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.
On a sheet of parchment paper, Stretch the dough out to about 12” on the long side.
Season the ricotta with kosher salt and pepper and set aside.
Sprinkle the mozzarella and pecorino over the dough. Dollop the ricotta over the grated cheese. Scatter the roasted butternut squash evenly over the cheese. Top with torn pieces of prosciutto. Bake the flatbread for about 15-20 minutes, until the crust has risen, is golden brown, and the cheese is melted.
