Tips/Notes

Cinnamon Syrup

A warmly spiced simple syrup that elevates cocktails, coffee, and so much more — a holiday kitchen essential.

Ingredients

Makes: About 1 cup Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4-5 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for stronger flavor)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks over medium heat.
  2. Dissolve sugar: Stir until sugar is completely dissolved, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Simmer: Bring to a gentle simmer (not a rolling boil). Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes to infuse the cinnamon flavor.
  4. Cool: Remove from heat and let cool completely with cinnamon sticks still in the syrup (this intensifies the flavor).
  5. Strain: Remove cinnamon sticks. Transfer syrup to a clean glass jar or bottle.
  6. Store: Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Beth's Tip: Make a double batch! Cinnamon syrup is amazing in coffee, lattes, hot chocolate, and drizzled over pancakes or oatmeal. It's a holiday kitchen essential.
