pleated skirts that you can wear year round
few items can be worn year-round, but if you’re lucky, you’ll find one or two wardrobe staples that will work overtime. skirts are a perfect candidate. pleated skirts have been trending the past few years, and i’m a big fan due to their versatility. i know, i know many of you think you can’t wear this versatile beauty. but i want you to step outside the style box for a moment. you know the one. it’s the box that says you’ll look too big,.. to which i say hogwash! who says style is dependent on looking slimmer 24/7? style is all about your personal preferences. of course, if your main objective is to look ten pounds slimmer, there are style tips to help with that goal. but if you’re looking to stay current, fresh, and modern with your outfit, i will suggest adding pleated skirts into your wardrobe. it’s the perfect blend of street style sophistication with a whole lot of comfort thrown in for good measure.
so how does one style pleated skirts? well, there are endless opportunities as skirts in general offer versatility galore. in the spring and summer, a simple tee, heels, and a pleated skirt will take you from desk to dinner with ease. pop on a denim jacket for a youthful edge. come fall and winter, midi skirts look fantastic with a sweater and boots. tuck the sweater in or leave it untucked but add a belt either way.

today’s ootd (outfit of the day) is one of my favorite style uniforms. what’s easier to put together than a sweater, skirt, and boots? it’s chic, it’s comfortable, and it’s street style sophistication at its best. a navy blue cashmere turtleneck from Everlane is a wardrobe staple that looks good with blue jeans, trousers, or a skirt. today, it’s the perfect match with a midi skirt (similar here, here, and here) from Nordstrom purchased on sale this summer. after all, it’s Monday, so why not sing those blues. and there are plenty to be found in this skirt. for contrast, and to create a womanly silhouette, i added a white belt. white suede boots (old, similar here) add texture, like a two-toned leather handbag from Frances Valentine (my new favorite designer!). didn’t i tell you it was going to be easy to style a pleated skirt? honestly, i could wear a variation of this outfit every day.

Love the blue skirt Beth! It looks familiar – wish it was still available. I would wear it with a belted sweater as well. If it would ever get cold enough here in Virginia, to do that, more than 7 days a year!
it’s always a dilemma to wear things that are no longer available for purchase but there are so many other cute pleated skirts online that i couldn’t resist sharing.
Nice to see how you wore the sweater outside with the pleated skirt. I am too self conscious to tuck in with my little tummy. I have a beautiful pleated from Talbots that I’ve hardly worn because I think I need to tuck a top in.

footwear is the easiest thing to tweak to your liking. but white boots are seen as tres chic these days.

Beth, you are stylish, beautiful and an inspiration in so many ways. May your blog live on! One suggestion: instead of 8 or 9 pix of the same outfit, use the central item with other pieces. I would love to see this skirt with a crisp white blouse and jacket or a sweater set. Honestly, we get the idea with one or two pics. The best to you!

You always look fantastic in blue! I adore swishy midi skirts. They always make me feel ultra feminine and can be so versatile. Walk the beach, swimsuit coverup, then just add a tank/shirt/blouse and top with a blazer or scarf – good to go. It will be months till I can wear them again – they just don’t work with snow pants or parkas 😉
