Happy Friday, ladies! And it’s the last Friday in February, which means one thing. Spring is right around the corner. Longer days and warmer temperatures, here we come! Although March can be a fickle month when it comes to weather… Don't worry; I’ll have you covered on what to wear for a warm weekend getaway, Easter dresses, and how to ease into all things spring! This week on FWO, we are keeping things casual and we have a fantastic menu on hand! I especially love the grilled Caesar salad with the BEST Caesar salad dressing I’ve had in years! Kelly decided to concoct a bloody mary mix from scratch. It’s quite good!

Every Friday, I reach for a casual chic outfit; this week is no different. With spring fast approaching, I’m looking for items that can transition from winter to spring with ease. Enter a bouclé top that’s part top and part sweater from Banana Republic that comes in ivory and black. It’s a simple top with a boat neck that you can pop over jeans for a weekend look or over pants for a workweek outfit. And who doesn’t love a top with a relaxed fit? This one fits the bill. Straight-leg jeans from Talbots are the perfect match, along with these houndstooth block heels from Frances Valentine that have been on style repeat for months!

For my Casual Friday Outfit, I went for a classic denim-on-denim combination, but I mixed it up with this Waffle Knit Sweater Vest from Madewell. A Classic Fit Chambray Shirt and jeans is like a one and done outfit because the combo will always work.

Classic Bloody Mary

A Classic Bloody Mary is the perfect savory cocktail to accompany our grilled Caesar salad. Skipping the pre-made mix and making a Bloody Mary from scratch is easier than you might think, and you may never go back to the pre-made mix!

Description

Makes 2 Cocktails

Ingredients

Celery salt

2 Lemon Wedges

2 Lime Wedges

4 oz. Vodka

4 oz. Tomato Juice

4 tsp. Prepared Horseradish

4 dashes Tabasco Sauce

4 dashes Worcestershire Sauce

2 pinches Ground Black Pepper

2 pinches Smoked Paprika

Garnish: parsley sprig

Garnish: 2 green olives

Garnish: lime wedge

Garnish: celery stalk (optional)

Cook Mode Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

Pour some celery salt onto a small plate.

Rub the juicy side of the lemon or lime wedge along the lip of a pint glass.

Roll the outer edge of the glass in celery salt until fully coated, then fill the glass with ice and set aside.

Squeeze the lemon and lime wedges into a shaker and drop them in.

Add the vodka, tomato juice, horseradish, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, smoked paprika, plus a pinch of celery salt along with ice and shake gently.

Strain into the prepared glass.

Garnish with parsley sprig, 2 speared green olives, a lime wedge and a celery stalk (optional).

Grilled Caesar Salad

We made a Caesar dressing from scratch for our Grilled Caesar salad which is definitely the way to go if you want to take your Caesar to the next level. Homemade Caesar dressing is not complicated, and it comes together quickly.

Ingredients

Caesar Dressing + Salad

6 Anchovy Fillets, oil packed and drained

1 Garlic Clove

Kosher Salt

2 large Egg Yolks

2 tbsp. Lemon Juice, plus more

3/4 tsp. Dijon Mustard

2 tbsp. Olive Oil

1/2 cup Vegetable or Grapeseed Oil (preferred)

3 tbsp. Parmesan Cheese, finely grated + shaved Parmesan for garnish

Fresh Ground Black Pepper

1 Head Romaine Lettuce, halved lengthwise

Croutons

3 cups Torn Bread Pieces, about 1″ x 1″

3 tbsp. Olive Oil

Lemon Zest, optional

Grated Parmesan, optional

Kosher Salt

Fresh Ground Black Pepper

Instructions

Chop together anchovy fillets, garlic, and pinch of salt. Use the flat side of a knife blade to smash into a paste, then scrape into a large bowl.

Whisk in egg yolks, 2 Tbsp. lemon juice, and mustard.  

A drop at a time to start, gradually whisk in olive oil, then vegetable oil; whisk until dressing is thick and glossy. Whisk in finely grated Parmesan.

Season with salt, pepper, and more lemon juice, if desired.  

Preheat oven to 375°. Tear bread into 1″ chunks. Toss bread with olive oil in a bowl. Spread on a baking sheet; season with salt and pepper. Bake, tossing occasionally, until golden, 10–15 minutes.  

In a a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium-high heat and place each half of romaine, cut side down and sear the romaine until golden.

Plate each romaine half on a plate, drizzle on the caesar dressing and top with parmesan and croutons. Serve remaining dressing on the side.

I hate to hear Marlene is not longer posting. She is awesome. I’ve truly enjoyed her information and inspirations. Perhaps Saturdays are a harder day to cover … myself; if I don’t have to work on the weekends, I take a tech rest so often don’t see them until Monday.

Great blood mary recipe, try adding some dijon mustard and salsa for an interesting kick.
