Happy Friday, gang, and happy last day of June! That’s right, we zipped through this month at record pace. Now we’re staring the 4th of July weekend square in the face! We have a family tradition of going to the Georgia Club for hotdogs, hamburgers and fireworks complete with patriotic songs on July 3rd. Last year, a storm blew threw and rained on our parade so to speak. At least, it delayed the fireworks for an hour or so. But we had only brought blankets to sit on the grass which throroughly got drenched in the downpour so we had to pack up and trudge home, missing the fireworks show… This year, yours truly is prepared for this Fourth of July Weekend, as I bought a Stars & Stripes Chair for each member of the family. There’s no raining on our parade this fourth! Shhhh, don’t tell anyone as it’s supposed to be a surprise!
For today's Fridays with Oscar, Kelly threw together a salad that’s perfect for the 4th, a watermelon salad with feta cheese. And I might add it’s delicious! What’’s better than a Mai Tai on a hot summer day for our cocktail? Of course, Oscar decided to stop and say hello, and I know Ollie is lurking somewhere in the background. She always joins us even if it’s behind the scenes.

Today’s ootd gives half a nod to the fourth of July with navy and white as my color scheme. All I’m missing is the red which I could easily add with red sandal or a red scarf tied around my waist. But I kept it simple today with just navy and white. The ric-rac top was last seen here and white linen shorts are a must-have when summer arrives. White sandals and a blue linen belt complete this simple yet chic summer outfit. Style never has to be complicated.

For this Fourth of July Weekend, I am wearing blue striped shorts. As with Beth's outfit, I could add red sandals to complete a festive look. But, I opted for Gold Glitter Jelly Fisherman Sandals. These sandals are by Melissa, from Nordstrom. I thought about buying these sandals for weeks. Then I pulled the trigger and I am so glad I did! They are waterproof, so they are perfect for the beach or pool. But more than anything else, these are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

My shorts are the classic Stretch Chino Shorts in stripe, from J.Crew. And my top has become my new favorite summer shirt, the Petite Sleeveless Essential Shirt.
Few drinks say summer vacation like the classic tiki cocktail, the mai tai. For this long hot weekend, it's the perfect drink to enjoy (poolside, if you can!).
1 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 oz. Light Rum
3/4 oz. Dry Orange Curaçao, Cointreau, or triple sec
3/4 oz. Orgeat Syrup
1/2 oz. Dark Rum
Fresh mint leaves, lime wheel and a Maraschino cherry, for garnish
Add lime juice, light rum, Curaçao, and syrup to an ice-filled shaker. Shake until very cold, about 30 seconds.
Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Slowly pour dark rum on top to float.
Garnish with mint, lime wheel, and cherry
This salad is by far the easiest salad to prepare as a cookout or summer holiday side dish. And it's always a winner! It's so cool and refreshing. Sweet watermelon and cool cucumber with savory feta, a simple lime vinaigrette, and for a little heat, a Serrano chile. Toss with fresh mint and you have a fantastic, refreshing summer salad.
3 cups Seedless Watermelon, cubed
1 English Cucumber, sliced
1 Serrano Chile or Jalepeño, seeded (optional) and sliced
3 tbsp. Thinly Sliced Mint Leaves, or small mint leaves
2 tbsp. Lime Juice, plus more to taste
3 tbsp. Olive Oil
Kosher Salt and Black Pepper to taste
1/3 cup Feta, crumbled
In a small jar, combine the olive oil, lime juice kosher salt, and black pepper. Affix the lid and vigorously shake to emulsify. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine the watermelon, cucumber, chile, and mint leaves. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss to combine. Top the salad with the feta and give another gentle stir. Transfer to a serving platter if desired.

I do have a question about Oscar: I notice his muzzle is getting white and was wondering what kind of supplements that you have started using since he is a “senior” pup.
