hello, winter! it’s a balmy 24 degrees in athens today. new york woke up to twenty degrees, palo alto was holding steady at fifty degrees, but minneapolis takes the cake with a brisk twenty-eight below zero. brrrrr! when the going gets tough, the tough reach for winter essentials. for me, that’s a cashmere turtleneck dress from Everlane that’s making its third appearance on the blog. this dress gets lots of mileage on cold winter days. it’s practical enough to fly solo with over-the-knee boots. or layer this dress over leggings. granted, those of you living in the frozen tundra will have to choose your footwear according to the current weather forecast. lucky for me athens temps bounce around quite a bit. today its downright cold but a seventy-one-degree day is on the horizon. on those days i can get away sans socks. but take heart if that isn’t your cup of tea. nowadays there are so many cute socks or booties to keep your tootsies warm. the twenty-first century offers lots of options.
last friday evening mr. style and i went to see the chinese acrobats that were in town. before the show, we caught a bite to eat at Five Ten and snapped a few photos. here’s what i wore: cashmere turtleneck dress, over-the-knee boots (similar here and here), tights, I.N.C coat (similar here and here) and my latest style crush – a black handbag from Ralph Lauren. but i paid a visit to the blog archives. scroll down to see how this dress was worn on two previous posts.
don’t you just love owning a repeat offender? there’s nothing better than shopping your closet.
date night never needs to be fancy schmancy but i do like to add a little drama to my ootn. since the temps are hovering in the forties, i reached for a turtleneck cashmere dress last seen here. it keeps me warm and stylish which is a win/win. when i purchased this dress from Everlane, i knew it would easily double as a tunic. don’t you love how it looks with faux leather leggings similar here? suede pumps similar here elevate this outfit to date night stature. if you wanted a daytime look simply exchange the pumps for ankle boots. many northern gals ask what type of socks i would wear if the weather were colder? in that case, i would wear nude tights or anklet or knee-high socks.
here’s the first time the sweater dress made an appearance on the blog.
with today’s black monochromatic, outfit you’d think i just returned from new york not the caribbean. but after a week’s worth of island style, it’s time to get it in gear and refocus on fall fashion. and what better way than with a cashmere turtleneck dress from everlane. this dress will pull double-duty in future months as it will look divine popped over faux leather leggings for an edgy modern look. today, this monochromatic ootd is kept simple with black on black and a textured embroidered jacket for good measure – black tights, black over-the-knee-boots, jacket.
all right, gang, bundle up and stay warm! happy wednesday.
