there’s something special about the month of june. the first blush of summer brings longer days, and if you’re lucky long weekends at the beach. is it possible for a beach vacation to get better than it is? only if a special friend happens to be in the same neck of the woods. errr, make that beaches. meet erin busbee editor of Busbee Style and YouTube guru

erin and i met several years ago through the blogosphere. immediately i became one of her biggest fans. this woman not only runs a successful blog but she’s raising two adorable, and might i add well-behaved children, while she’s creating fashion content and editing her YouTube videos. and she does it all with style and grace. let me share a sweet story since mr. style and i had the pleasure of dining with four out of five busbee’s (erin’s husband was traveling overseas). last friday evening the five of us met at the Georgia Seafood Grill a lovely restaurant and wine bar located in the Pier Village. the entire evening erin’s children were so delightful and engaged for over two hours – not an easy feat for an eight and five-year-old. let me tell you, mr. style, and i were so impressed with gage and elizabeth. but it seems our waitress was even more impressed with how these two kiddos behaved at the restaurant and kindly shared her thoughts with erin.

but let me share a bit more about erin whose passion is to make shopping and style simple for busy women juggling life over 40. erin shares loads of great style tips, beauty tutorials, and fashion inspiration on her blog. i always come away from erin’s site having learned something. and i love the fact we share the same style philosophy – if you feel great, you step out the door in confidence. no matter what your age. amen!

Busbee Style Philosophy

1) What are your thoughts about style and age? Should we modify what we wear as we get older?

I think style is intensely personal so if you are feeling great in a mini dress, then wear the mini dress. You should make modifications based on your comfort level versus age. For example, if you aren’t feeling great about your arms as you get older, you can cover them up with tees, tops, sweaters or jackets. If you don’t love your knees, wear a midi or maxi skirt. But, if you have killer arms and you are 70…? Rock those sleeveless tops and dresses!

2) Most important style tip?

My most important style tip is always to make sure you have your wardrobe basics. They are sometimes the least sexy thing to buy, but definitely the most important pieces in your closet. I have two wardrobe basics checklists that your readers can get for free if they subscribe to my newsletter. The direct link is here.

3) What is your go-to look?

My go-to look is skinny jeans, a top, a blazer, and pumps. I feel like I can wear that everywhere from a business lunch to a dinner date with my husband. It is a modern and youthful look without overdoing it.

erin recently developed a series that talks about the business side of blogging. yes, there are many components that go into running a successful blog besides great photos. erin kicked off her series with a thoughtful blog post How to Start a Fashion Blog. next, she talked about Camera Equipment. i can’t wait to read the next installment!

if running a successful blog wasn’t enough of a challenge, erin and her husband plus their two kiddos recently relocated cross country from texas to colorado. now the two of us have one more thing in common. we live in small towns and love it! and each of us has become best friends with our UPS drivers. yes, small town living and online shopping habits go hand in hand. right erin?

as you can see from the photos, Georgia’s coastline is breathtakingly beautiful if not a tad hot. to beat the summer heat i chose to wear a crisp cotton gingham top with a pretty bow in back, white scalloped shorts, and sandals. it’s the perfect outfit for a perfect day at the beach.

Beth, this is why I adore your blog! I absolutely agree with your attitude and philosophy about age and style. I am a few years older than you..63..and I love it that you are not held down by the notion that we should avoid certain styles, trends or lengths because of our age. I discovered your blog this past winter while recovering from foot surgery…Athens Orthopedics. I am a native Georgian living just 50 miles NE of you. Since discovering your blog I have completely cleaned out my closet and am now building my Basics wardrobe. Thank you for your time you spend doing this and the great advice you share. And, Go Dawgs! (wink wink)

hi dessie! it’s so nice to hear from you. thanks so much for stopping by. i’m a firm believer that age is irrelevant to fashion. if an outfit looks good and you feel great wearing it that’s all that matters. i always like to say style has no expiration date. thank goodness! hope your foot has recovered from surgery. i’m certain it was a tough go for awhile. xo

Beth, you are introducing J Crew into my life! And I thank you! Yes, time to streamline the closet as I do every season, giving clothes to Purple Heart. Makes my life feel less cluttered and back to basics check list keeps me focused.

J.Crew and I go way back! They’ve had some bumps in the road the past few years but I feel they are getting their groove back. Happy to share the J.Crew love! Happy shopping.

Erin sounds delightful. And her kids are beautiful. I love that island–all the dunes are so serene. It’s always inspiring to me to see women supporting other women in businesses. Kudos to both of you. Cute outfits!
