it’s time to celebrate, gang, ‘cuz the blog turns three today! yes, three years ago Style at a Certain Age hit the publish button, and nothing’s quite been the same since then. and while most fashion, style, lifestyle bloggers know exactly what they’re doing when they decide to start a blog. let me tell you this girl had no idea what she was getting into.

many of you have followed the blog from the early days and know how i accidentally found my way to the blogosphere. you see, i wrote a book several years ago, then snagged an agent who advised writers need a social media presence. “social media? i  have five Facebook friends. does that count?” i asked. “go find some more,” he said. “ummm, how do i do that?” i asked. 

well, it took two years before the eureka moment struck to start a style blog. it was after a woman complimented my outfit. “that’s it,” i thought eyes widening. “i’ll post an ootd – outfit of the day. twenty-year-olds are doing it. why can’t i?” so i raced home and researched ‘how to start a blog’ and almost quit before i started. “HTML? WordPress? Plug-ins? Code? what the heck are those? who has time to learn?” i thought. but then I discovered Tumblr a social media channel – the predecessor to Instagram. simply snap a photo, upload, and away you go. and that’s just what mr. style and i did five days a week before i headed off to work. here’s the first photo that went live on Tumblr. it was titled “step into spring.”
