an iconic piece that has stood the test of time is a fab pair of trousers. this wardrobe staple resists trends and never fails to look good, no matter what year it is. pick a classic color like black or white, and you will step out the door year in and year out in style.

today, the color combo couldn’t be any more classic. black and white are always all right in my book. and nothing is cozier or more comfortable to wear than knits. today’s version is a knit duster that is a marvelous transition piece when the temps are colder in the morning. it’s a soft alternative to a coat or jacket. the best part about this ootd? it can go from desk to dinner with ease. for a daytime look add a pair of pearl or diamond stud earrings. for evening glam it up with chandeliers. add a pair of pointy-toed pumps and black handbag for day/sandals, clutch for night and this outfit has classic chic written all over it. but don’t be afraid to mix and match accessories. as you can see, i have one foot planted in day and one in evening.

labels: pants Banana Republic (old, similar here and here); sweater J.Crew; duster St. John Knits (old, similar here and here); shoes Gucci (similar here and here); handbag Michael Kors (similar here and here); earrings J.Crew (similar here and here); lip shade Ultradior

El Perfecto! This is a great look on you and shows black and white is a classic I sometimes overlook how impactful it is in my wardrobe. I have been at my desk since 5 and need to get dressed for appointments. Was dreading going in the closet to start the hunt. Thanks for the blueprint-done deal!-Laurel

Beautiful! The black duster is stunning on you. I’ve been seeing more of these dusters lately, and I love the look — the elegant length elongates everyone’s shape and adds height. You hit a home run with this one. Black and white is spectacular with your hair, too.

Love this outfit! Too bad the duster is no longer available…simply stunning. Black and white stands very nicely on its own without a pop of color. Perfect with your hair… xoxo

Such a fabulous, chic look, and the colors are smashing on you! If I might make one small suggestion, consider shortening the duster by four inches. It is designed for a taller woman, and making it shorter will improve the proportion on you, especially in back.

I do love the longer version duster cardigans! I have a knee length one but I need a longer one. I have a vest that long and I absolutely love wearing it. So cool.
