at the end of the day any style philosophy comes down to this: knowing what makes you comfortable in your own skin. while far from revolutionary, this simple idea goes a long way toward cementing your personal style that will stand the test of time. and here and there on the blog we revisit this issue. for me, a timeless wardrobe is built on the classics. since i was a teenager i’ve favored the american classic look. blazers, cardigans, chinos, denim jacket, pencil skirts, loafers, ballet flats (last seen here) all have prime retail space in my closet. why? these are the items i reach for time-and-again for one reason – because they work. and that’s what i want my wardrobe to do for me – work. and i know that timeless pieces can be paired with almost anything. sure, i incorporate trends into my wardrobe. that’s what keeps me looking fresh and modern decade after decade. but i know what style works for me and even my trendiest outfit is rooted in the classics. on a day when i’m short on time (who hasn’t been there?) guess what i reach for when it’s time to head out the door? that’s right. i’m not going to waste precious minutes by trying to finagle a cold shoulder blouse into my ensemble. especially when i know my tried-and-true white tee will go seamlessly with my white chinos. adding a black blazer into the equation is a no-brainer. and shoes? my favorite pair of loafers will do just the trick to give this ootd the casual chic look i favor. and the finishing touches? a smart black handbag and my ever so classic pearls. now how easy is that to get ready in the morning?
happy memorial day!
