Well said Beth. You thought this through to a degree I didn’t consider . Food for thought here. Have a great day!

  2. Carol says:

I couldn’t agree more! Even though I don’t have the same budget that you do I strive to look put together every day.

    • Beth Djalali says:

Isn’t it great to know style has no expiration date or budget! We can create beautiful outfits and feel put together at any age and any price point.
      Thanks for stopping by!

Great post Beth! One other benefit we might consider: we just might set an example to inspire others. You certainly inspire your readers! Maybe we can spread the positivity in our own circles.

I love this post, and believe it or not I have been having this same topic of discussion with my husband. I told him I find that as we age, we are both long retired, it is more important than ever for us to groom and dress ourselves to a high standard. We are leaving tomorrow for a 4 night stay in a beautiful area of the Finger Lakes. We are originally from the area before a job transfer, and we like to go home every year for a few days. We are staying at a very well known Inn in an upscale area. We have been selecting our clothes for the different activities we will be doing, from long walks to fine dining. I have noticed that so many folks of a certain age have kind of let themselves go. I know there are many reasons for this such health, finances, etc., but I think if people took a bit more care with themselves and the way they present themselves it would make them feel better about themselves. After retiring from a very conservative line of work I have eliminated suits and heels from my wardrobe, and it has been a fun transition building it for my new lifetstyle.

My mother is 103 yrs old and dresses herself in a coordinating outfit everyday. Usually consisting of a button down collared shirt, cardigan and as calls them, slacks, and shoes, along with a pin or necklace.
Always ready to face the world. She even s willing to try new trends…she started wearing a black denim jacket when turned 100. Looked so chic with her silver hair.

The perfect answer to my husband’s question “why bother? no one knows you here” asked while waiting for me to put on my make up and do something with my hair in the Cracker Barrel parking lot in our RV. Also an answer to his complaint about how many clothes shoes etc I bring along. Going on vacation or camping is not an excuse to ” not bother” no matter how casual the situation

I always say that a vacation is a time to make sure we look good as that is when we tend to take the most photos of ourselves too! Looking back at holiday pictures and liking what we see helps cement precious memories.

Beth, this is all so true! It has always given me a lift in spirits to dress in something I love! And also, in years past I’ve been given compliments on how I dress and others have actually said I inspired them to dress better. It’s a true positive all around. Thank you so much for your inspiring posts and outfits!

Thank you, thank you, for this “boot” in the rear! I had major dental surgery the end of May and will be without any teeth until sometime in September. It was a necessary step, but it really played havoc with my self esteem. For about the first six weeks, I never left the house without my trusty face mask. lol.
I finally took the leap and went without it, but am still so embarrassed about my appearance.
Along with that I have lost over 50 pounds in the past three years and have had to totally replenish my closet. Your post today made me take a clear look at myself, and decide to start using that new wardrobe now, rather than waiting til I get me teeth, so again, thank you thank you.

Thank you so much, Beth, for today’s post, and to the blog sisters for their insightful comments. LOVE the 103-year-old dressed ready for the world every day, and the 100-year-old who added a black denim jacket to her style on her birthday! Such inspiration! Remember old L’Oreal commercials ended with, “Because you’re worth it”? In 2023, now state, “Because you’re still worth it”! Yes, we are worth it. Every single day! Love to all! 🥰

Beth, I soooo agree. I always encourage people by complementing their clothes when I see they have made an effort–hoping they will continue to do so. I know that I feel more confident when I dress up. Sad to say that I have been asked if I am going to church when people see me on the weekends. So few arounds me do it. But, that’s OK. Love your postings. Not ashamed to say that some of my outfits are from thrift stores–where I sometimes find beautiful clothing, name brands, with the store tag still on them.
