Love the look. Talbots is my go to store, love their style, their summer wear is washable which to me is important. I am petite so there is a large selection for petites and I am a women of a certain age.
On another note your basement. We have a waterproof floor in our basement which looks like wood. The floor is from Home Depot I believe the name is Lifeproof, plank flooring. It looks great!

Beth I love your casual breezy Summer white look! And as a southern girl
I have learned to wear my white.. well after Labor Day! Cheers to summer whites!

  3. Laura says:

I had an acid treatment (with color) done on existing concrete floor, then dremeled irregular rectangles. It looked like slate when completed. Although cold in winter, looked great with rugs. Loved it!

  4. Suzanne Smith says:

Cute! I’m also enjoying the wider leg cropped pants–I have a few, and with the right top, they look chic. I agree that come summer and muggy temps, tight-fitting things are just unbearable for me. I almost always have a few styles of white pants for summer–so versatile. You can mix and match tons of looks.

    Hi Beth
I like your idea of a finished concrete floor with rugs scattered. Another idea you could try is commercial grade carpet with no pad. That way there is no pad to soak up any future water and it lasts a very long time. We did that 11 years ago, and still looks new. Your outfit today looks great, as always! I also liked your post a couple of days ago giving all the different classic looks and ideas such as the sunglasses. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have had a home with stained concrete floor for almost 13 yrs. they have been wonderful and I would do it again. It has been great with my dog who had a back injury several years ago. He has some continence issues as a result. The concrete floors are so easy to clean

  7. Karon Joyer says:

Hi Beth, in regards to your flooring question, I would agree a stained concrete in a lower level is a great idea. My recommendation would be to go lighter and neutral in color. It will give you more flexibility in the future if you want to change decor.

Hi Beth, I do love my white crops, I have denim and some cotton ones too I find them so comfortable. Mind you no chance wearing them here where I am in England, I think the torrential rain you had has made its way over here.
Sorry to hear about your basement, water can be so destructive, hope you manage to settle on a plan regards your floor xoxo

I am not much of a fan of wall to wall carpeting. I favor hardwood floors, tile or concrete polished or treated in an interesting manner. Carpeting just never feels really clean. Plus with pets, cleanable flooring is easy. Concrete floors are just fun, easy & oh so practical in a basement.
Yes on white crops – a staple in my SoCal wardrobe!!

  10. Kathleen says:

I had stained concrete in our last home’s daylight basement. Loved it. Did it for the same reason you did. Had a quick snow melt that flooded. It was very easy to take care of…sweep and mop.

  11. Oh, Beth, I feel you flooded basement pain. We have been drying out as well, up here in Omaha! Our bad storms occurred a couple of weeks ago and we, too, had to go out and purchase a wet/dry vac and extra fans. It’s pretty uggy, for sure! We are having our carpet cleaned first to see if the spot will come out. It only affected one smaller section. I REALLY don’t want to have to replace flooring down there (it’s our family room) because we JUST replaced gutters, etc! Good luck with whatever plan you come up with! And thank you for your daily inspiration! I’ve been a fan for almost two years and never miss a day of checking in to see your OOTD. I have learned so much – how to purchase and how to incorporate what is already in my wardrobe! Please keep it up! You are truly a guide for women of our age, and I love and use many of your cocktails and recipes!!

  12. Susan says:

Hi Beth..It took me forever to get used to skinny jeans and tapered leg pants. I love the look on you, it will take me a bit to get used to the wide leg !
So sorry you had a soggy weekend. Water does a ton of damage. I think concrete floors are a great idea!!

  13. Jeanne Jepson says:

I love this look. Have the Talbots crops in regular denim. They are so comfortable—a great travel piece and perfect thing to wear when getting a pedi. Have a white linen top similar to the one you’re wearing but never thought to wear it with the crops. Thanks for the idea. So sorry about your basement. Good luck to you in redoing the floor—it will be lovely, I’m sure.
