fridays with oscar
it’s memorial day weekend and oscar and i couldn’t resist getting into the spirit a few days early. anyone else excited for the unofficial summer kickoff? there’s a barbecue in the works, root beer floats, burgers, and if i’m ambitious, homemade ice cream will join the menu. the mini flags will turn into centerpieces as we can never forget that the last day in may is dedicated to all our fallen heroes who lost their lives while in military service. my father served as a marine during the korean war. and i grew up with the knowledge that if things were bad the president would ‘send in the marines.’ what a comfort to know that brave men and women still heed to call to serve our nation that is still the land of the free and home of the brave.
the sun finally decided to make an appearance. and it looks as if it will be sticking around for a few days. at least long enough for us to flip those burgers. but first, a little prep time is in order.

Beth, you look terrific and so does Oscar! I have to tell you, too, that I purchased the Keds sneakers you’re wearing in the photos — and they are incredibly cute and very comfortable. I’ve walked my own dog in them several times already. Happy Memorial Day to you!
I saw those Keds in a local department store but didn’t have time to try them on. Thanks for the positive info. I think I’ll go back and check them out. 🙂

Beth please please please go back to this garden at the end of summer so we can enjoy the zinnias! The hillside will be so gorgeous!

i promise to go back, holly! as a matter of fact, the gardener was just transplanting the zinnias the day we shot the photos so in a few weeks time i’m certain it will look lush. there’s nothing quite like zinnias come summer. i love their explosion of color.

Happy Memorial Day weekend to you, Mr. Style and Oscar. Mr Style found some gorgeous color to display here. I love the clean, fresh air after all our rain lately, and it really is nice and colorful out there. Looking forward to a weekend with family and relaxation. You look great.
And yes–your nod to the wonderful men and women who serve, and, on this weekend in particular, those who have given their lives for us all, is most definitely in order while we all count our blessings this weekend.
i love this garden, sue! this area is a particular favorite of mine to take photos. the flowers will be luscious looking in a few weeks as they were just transplanting the zinnias.
